2023 Kia TellurideKia America has issued a safety recall for 462,869 Telluride SUVs across the 2020 through 2024 model years due to a recurring defect that presents an immediate fire risk.According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the front power seat motors in the affected vehicles can continuously draw electrical current and overheat, which can ignite a fire whether the vehicle is actively driving or turned off and parked. The campaign targets Tellurides manufactured between January 9, 2019, and May 29, 2024. The underlying issue stems from a vulnerability in the front power seat side covers and slide control knobs. If these components experience an external impact or excessive force, the internal seat switch can become physically dislodged or misaligned.kia recalls telluride again for seats that could still catch on fireOnce misaligned, the switch can lock up, forcing the seat motor to run continuously until it overheats and catches fire. Due to the severe nature of the fire hazard, Kia is explicitly advising all affected owners to park their vehicles outside and away from homes, garages, or other structures until the necessary safety repairs have been performed.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis campaign supersedes a 2024 recall campaign (NHTSA number 24V407) for the same problem. Kia confirmed that an improper or incomplete repair under the prior recall can still lead to localized overheating. To fix the problem, Kia dealers will install a newly engineered electronic fuse assembly. Kia plans to begin mailing notification letters to registered owners between August 13 and August 19, 2026.
