The concept models Jeep brings to the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab every year can range from not much more than some floor mats to incredibly wild concepts that could never see production. Somewhere in the middle are models like the two late arrivals Jeep unveiled in a surprise reveal today. Say hello to a lifted Recon called the Overwatch, and a Cherokee called Upland that officials suggest could preview a new Cherokee Trailhawk. Upland In Camo, Trailhawk In The Future jeep-cherokee-upland-concept-1Jeep's spec sheet for the Cherokee Upland concept is a short one. It gets a custom "off-road-spec" front fascia, which we believe means better approach angle clearance, and functional tow hooks at both ends. It also comes with new 18-inch wheels wrapped in 31.5-inch Falken Wildpeak A/T tires. The elaborate roof rack system is a conceptual one. That's what Jeep calls it, which has us wondering if it's the rack holding our bike or the bike holding us. Expect some sort of new racking for production.Upland also gets a special wrap with a landscape-looking camouflage pattern. Take a closer look, and you'll find Easter Eggs like some hidden Willys Jeeps and one of the arches that make up Arches National Park. That's the epic park just north of the town of Moab, though there's no off-road driving in the park. We're told that this is a preview of the upcoming Trailhawk Cherokee. That's cemented by someone at Jeep who named the photos "Jeep KM Trailhawk." KM is the chassis code for the new model Cherokee. Jeep has done the Trailhawk treatment to the Cherokee before, with even the last generation offering a real low-range transfer case. That one only had 29-inch tires, so this concept gives you a bit more clearance and capability. Recon Gets Lift, Big Tires, Carbon Fiber jeep-recon-overwatch-concept-1Previously, Jeep had no plans to head to Moab with a new electric Recon but apparently that was just a red herring. Recon Overwatch is named for one of the many off-road trails around Moab, and it's designed for "the technical challenges and tight clearances of its namesake route."Tight technical challenges mean lighter weight, even if it's based on the electric Jeep. It has carbon fiber fender flares, door jamb covers, and a few other small parts. We're not sure if they'll actually cut any pounds, but Jeep pulled the rear and quarter windows and at least that will reduce it.Jared Rosenholtz / CarBuzz / ValnetThe Overwatch gets a two-inch Jeep Performance Parts lift kit. The kit is a concept part, not a production one, but that's code for Jeep wanting to know if you're interested before it builds a bunch of them.Jeep's fully-electric off-roader also has steel rock rails and skid plates underneath, canceling out any possible weight savings. There are 34-inch BFG all-terrain tires on 18-inch bead lock wheels, and the Jeep has custom side mirrors. Everything to hold the roof rack is also custom for the concept. On the inside, Jeep retrimmed the seats and the steering wheel. It also painted some parts so they'd look cool, and installed the obligatory all-weather floor mats. Can you conquer a trail by sneaking up on it with an electric Jeep? It might not matter, but it will probably help your wildlife spotting. The Recon wasn't expected to show up at the EJS. The EJ (for electric Jeep) has been delayed, and the brand's CEO has said that even though he's hyped for its arrival, he doesn't care much if they don't sell well. So it was a pleasant surprise to see the Recon Overwatch and the Cherokee Upland concepts turn up at the event. Here's hoping they show up at dealers sooner rather than never.jeep-recon-overwatch-concept-live-image-7
