To jog your memory, seven-seat versions of the Malaysian-market Hyundai Staria have a fixed centre console (with a sliding lid) between the front seats, while 10-seat versions have a middle seat situated closer to the front passenger seat that folds down to give you two cupholders and two phone slots. It has been so from the Sime Darby era through the Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) era to the local assembly (CKD) era. HMY has announced that the MPV now has a floor console incorporating a removable cupholder, a retractable cupholder, a storage box and a drawer tray, and the middle seat has been removed. No price change – the vehicle is still RM179,888-267,888 – and of course, it’s been CKD since October. Previously, the seven-seater had a fixed centre console (left) while the 10-seater had a fold-down middle seat We’re still uncertain if this new console is the same one as on the seven-seater or a totally new one. If it’s the former, it simply means the 10-seater gets what the seven-seater has had all this while, and if it’s the latter, we wonder if it’s on both cars. However, seeing as even the new facelift (not in Malaysia yet) carries over the seven-seater’s fixed centre console, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that the former is true. In any case, we’ve reached out to HMY and will provide updates and photos in due course.
