Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has announced the start of sales for the locally-assembled Hyundai Staria, which is the first CKD model in the HMY era. The MPV rolls off the line at Sime Motors’ Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah.

“The commencement of local production for the Hyundai Staria is more than just a production achievement. It represents Hyundai’s confidence in Malaysia as an important market and a growing hub for future assembly,” said HMY president Eric Lee.

HMY says that its investment in local assembly and production facilities underscores the company’s determination to plant deep roots and contribute meaningfully to the local economy. “HMY is also committed to fostering stronger supply chains and supporting the nation’s industrial ecosystem. The brand positions itself not only as a mobility provider, but also as a long-term collaborator in Malaysia’s economic development journey,” it added.

“We made a bold statement when we established HMY, that we are ‘Here to Stay’. And here to stay means stability, trust, and a long-term presence in Malaysia. It means investing in local production, working hand-in-hand with our partners and the government, and most importantly, delivering on the promises we have made — while setting new ones for the future,” said HMY MD Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen.

“From humble beginnings, we have grown into a trusted assembly partner within Hyundai’s global network. Every vehicle produced here is crafted with precision, care and in full compliance with Hyundai’s global standards, driven entirely by 100% Malaysian talent,” said Sui Keng Huat, MD of Inokom.

The Staria, Hyundai’s top-seller in Malaysia, is the obvious choice to be HMY’s first CKD model. What’s next? HMY promised “three new models across SUV and MPV categories” when it came in, and the company made its debut in July with the Staria, Tucson and Santa Fe, so it’s obvious which are the SUVs that are in line for CKD. Great cars with striking looks – will local assembly give the duo an even more competitive price?

Anyway, the CKD Staria is priced between RM179,888 and RM267,888, which is the same as the CBU imported units HMY launched earlier this year. But there’s a year-end campaign throwing in eight times free service (parts and labour) or a cash reward of RM6,000. There’s also an additional RM5,000 offer on selected variants, up to RM2,000 worth of myHyundaiRewards lifestyle vouchers or a RM1,500 bonus, free accessories and an insurance upgrade.

You can now have the 2.2L turbodiesel MPV in Jet Black, Snow Flake White Pearl, Meteor Grey or Stormy Sea. These are the same four colours found on the last CKD Hyundai in Malaysia, the pre-HMY Santa Fe TM facelift. Jet Black should replace the CBU car’s Abyss Black Pearl while Snow Flake White Pearl should take over from Creamy White.

Choose from 10-seat Style, 10-seat Prime, 10-seat Prestige and 7-seat Prestige variants. Full details and specs of the latest Staria here.
