Honda's Hotter Civic Type R Is Looking DynamiteHonda (Honda)Honda first showed off its Civic Type R HRC Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year—and now, it’s giving us our first glimpse at the more intense Type R based on that concept that's headed to the streets.A short video on YouTube and accompanying announcement on Honda’s Instagram reveal a few details about the car in question. The post's text reveals plenty: “Now under development. Based on Civic Type R, designed to deliver the ultimate in pure sports performance, a new model is being developed using technologies cultivated by HRC and insights from racing drivers. Stay tuned!”Honda isn’t revealing exactly what it will call this new model, but the most obvious bet would be the Civic Type R HRC. The video features clips of Honda engineers tinkering with the aero setup and snippets of impressions from drivers after taking it around the famous Suzuka Circuit. One of the drivers says that the car is more race-oriented, has better responses, and has greater rigidity. One of the commenters says HRC poured everything it could into this car, claiming it strikes a great balance. The clips of the Type Rs in this video also peels back a lot of the camouflage Honda applied to its HRC Concept in Tokyo. The company is still concealing the parts of the car being modified for better aero, but we can see through much of it: a totally new bumper is present with pointier sculpting, and what looks like larger side air intake openings; there’s a deeper splitter with side plates installed on the corners; and Honda goes even further with extrusions on the front fenders, where you’ll notice more aero elements tacked on. It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on with the spicier side sills, but around back, we can see what looks like the current Type R’s accessory carbon fiber wing installed in place of the standard one.Honda (Honda)One of the last small-but-certainly-impactful details we spy is a new Akrapovic tri-tip exhaust. Honda has strayed away from its customary larger center tip flanked by two smaller ones, as all three tips of the Akrapovic system are uniform in size. An HRC radiator is visible through the front grille, and if you pay extra close attention to the interior, this Type R is rocking the Google Built-in infotainment system found on every other version of the Civic today. We suspected it would be part of the 2027 refresh Honda says is coming, but this pretty much confirms it.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe final look and package doesn’t seem complete yet based on this video, but we already have intel that it will arrive in less than 100 days. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
