A woman is going viral on TikTok after sharing her reaction to a piece of her Honda Civic falling off while she was driving on the highway. Liz (@liz_10116), who says she posts lifestyle and car content on her page, recently told viewers she heard a strange noise while driving. She later realized the sound was coming from the lip on the front of her car. "Guys, my [expletive] lip fell off on the highway. I don’t have a lip on my car anymore," she exclaims. Liz says she initially suspected the sound might be related to the part, but the reality didn’t sink in until later. "My car literally does not have a lip," she repeats in the video. She also pointed out in the text overlay that replacing it won’t be cheap. "Not me losing my whole lip on my car like it wasn’t $200," Liz wrote. In the caption, she said she was open to suggestions for a replacement and asked for ideas in the comments. Several people, however, admitted they had no idea what she meant by a "lip." Even so, the video quickly took off online, drawing more than 282,400 views as of this writing. What Is A Car’s ‘Lip’? The "lip" Liz mentioned refers to a small piece attached to the bottom edge of a car’s front bumper. It’s often called a front lip or bumper lip, and it usually sits low to the ground, extending slightly from the front of the vehicle. For many drivers, the main purpose is appearance. A lip is an aftermarket modification, according to EZ Lip, that gives the front of the car a lower, sportier look that appears popular with people who like modifying or styling their vehicles. But the part can serve a practical purpose, too. Because it sits close to the road, a lip can help manage airflow under the car. It can also act as a bit of a buffer. Since it’s mounted at the very bottom of the bumper, the lip often takes the first hit from things like curbs or speed bumps. That means it sometimes gets damaged before the bumper itself does. Lips are typically made from materials like rubber, fiberglass, or carbon fiber. Some are simple bolt-on accessories, while others come as part of larger body kits. They’re also different from another part that drivers sometimes confuse them with, called a splitter. A splitter generally extends farther outward, Ikon Motorsports says, and is designed more for performance by creating additional downforce. A lip, by comparison, tends to be smaller and more focused on styling and basic protection. Because the piece sits so low, it’s also one of the easier parts of a car to scrape, crack, or lose entirely while driving. Viewers Confused About What The Lip Is Because a front lip is often added for styling rather than function, several viewers admitted they had no idea what Liz meant when she said the piece had fallen off her car. "What the hell is a lip on a car?" one woman asked. Another commenter had the same reaction. "Wtf is a lip on a car? I’ve never heard that before!!" the person wrote. A third viewer said they still couldn’t tell what was missing from the vehicle. "I don’t even know what’s missing," they wrote. Others tried to guess what part Liz meant. "Are we talking about the grill? Wtf is a lip?" another commenter wondered. At the same time, a few viewers joked that they felt ahead of the curve for actually knowing what the part was. "Lmao ima just consider myself a car girl bc no one else is understanding this," one person wrote. "Am so happy I know what a car lip is," another commenter added. One viewer even attempted to explain it for others in the thread. "For those wondering, basically a metal bar that makes your car look lower or something like that," the person wrote. A few people also said they could relate to Liz’s situation because the same thing had happened to them. "Lmao, that happened to me two years ago didn’t even notice till my husband [asked] wth happened to lip on my car," one woman wrote. Still, some viewers couldn’t understand why Liz was so upset after she showed the car without the lip. "Looks fine to me," one person wrote. "Looks like the car is whole," another added.
