The Ineos Grenadier has never been the obvious choice for someone shopping for a comfortable family SUV. Then again, Storyteller Overland's 2027 Grand Bohemian isn't interested in obvious choices. For $198,888, the Alabama-based adventure vehicle builder will turn the rugged British 4x4 into a fully RVIA-certified micro-camper that sleeps up to three people, carries its own water and power supply, and comes prepared for the sort of roads where Google Maps eventually shrugs and wishes you luck. So, forget the 2027 BMW X5 for a moment. BMW's luxury SUV may be better suited to school runs, airport parking garages, and explaining gesture controls to your father-in-law. The Grand Bohemian is for people who look at a distant mountain range and wonder whether there is enough fuel to disappear behind it for a few days.Storyteller turned a Grenadier into a tiny RVThe base vehicle is an Ineos Grenadier equipped with BMW's 3.0-liter B58 turbocharged inline-six gasoline engine. In U.S.-spec form, it produces 282 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, sending power through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel-drive system. Solid Carraro axles, a two-speed transfer case, and a locking center differential remain part of the package.AdvertisementAdvertisementStoryteller adds EVICTUS prerunner suspension, BFGoodrich off-road tires, a 12,500-pound front winch, a twin-motor air compressor, extra lighting, and a 270-degree awning. The Grand Bohemian can also tow up to 7,716 pounds.View the 3 images of this gallery on the original articleIt is a shame not every market gets Ineos' phenomenal BMW-sourced B57 turbodiesel inline-six. Ineos officially offers the 3.0-liter diesel on Grenadiers in other markets, while the U.S. Station Wagon is listed with the gasoline B58. The diesel's low-rev character would seem almost tailor-made for a long expedition deep into the wilderness, far from the nearest gas station, paved road, or cell phone tower.Three beds, solar power, and a very honest bathroomAn integrated Alu-Cab pop-top provides sleeping space for two and enough standing room below. The rear lounge uses a slide-out sleep surface to accommodate a third person, although choosing your camping companions wisely may prevent an awkward midnight climbing exercise.View the 3 images of this gallery on the original articleAdvertisementAdvertisementThe galley includes a stainless-steel sink, butcher-block counter, portable induction cooktop, and a 21-quart dual-zone refrigerator/freezer. There are 10.5 gallons of fresh water onboard, plus a 5.4-kWh lithium battery system, 400 watts of rated solar capacity, and a 2,000-watt inverter. This isn't the rolling off-grid fortress that the much larger Winnebago ARKA adventure truck aims to be. The ARKA can carry 60 gallons of fresh water and up to 16.8 kWh of lithium battery capacity. Storyteller took the opposite approach and squeezed the basics into something that still fundamentally looks and drives like an SUV.The bathroom situation is equally compact. There is an exterior shower at the rear door and a composting toilet that can be stored with the luggage. At nearly $199,000, the Grand Bohemian proves luxury is relative. You get solar power, BMW engineering, serious four-wheel-drive hardware, and a toilet that shares storage space with your carry-on.Still, that's arguably the whole point. Plenty of luxury SUVs can take you to a five-star hotel. The Grand Bohemian is for the person who would rather drive past it, keep going until the pavement ends, and bring the bedroom along.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis story was originally published by Men's Journal on Jul 6, 2026, where it first appeared in the Gear section.
