A fault in the pretensioner mechanism can cause the seat belt to lock up unexpectedly, whether in the driver's position, the front passenger's position, or both, making it impossible for the belt to move freely.Vehicle owners will not be charged for the fix; dealerships will examine the seat belt retractors and swap them out as needed, according to the NHTSA.
