2027 Cherokee Trailhawk Adds Off-Road MuscleStellantis North AmericaThe Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is officially back. After teasing its return, Jeep has revealed the off-road-focused version of its new Cherokee. It adds extra ground clearance and trail equipment while keeping the standard model's hybrid powertrain. There's a wrinkle in the timing, however. This 2027 Trailhawk may be a short-lived version of the Cherokee. A next-generation model is expected in the first half of 2028, which will be based on Stellantis' new STLA One platform. If that schedule holds, this Trailhawk will serve as an interim model while the larger redesign is in development. The Trailhawk builds on the regular Cherokee with a one-inch suspension lift, bringing ground clearance to nine inches. Jeep says it also has unique springs and damper tuning to improve suspension flexibility and axle articulation over uneven terrain. The lift and Trailhawk-specific front and rear fascias help deliver claimed approach, departure and breakover angles of 28.8, 31.8, and 21.9 degrees. Jeep also gives the Trailhawk a 24-inch water-fording rating. Those figures describe its potential on the trail, although real-world performance will depend on conditions and how the vehicle is equipped. The more significant upgrade is underneath. The Trailhawk comes standard with Jeep's 4x4 system and a two-speed transfer case with a 2.92:1 low range. Jeep lists a 37.5:1 crawl ratio, which helps the vehicle move slowly and with control over steep or uneven ground.Steel skidplates protect the front axle, wiring, and fuel tank, while a separate plate shields the hybrid battery. The Trailhawk also adds a locking rear axle, giving it more traction when a wheel loses grip.Power comes from the Cherokee's 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid system, rated at 210 horsepower. Jeep estimates 31 mpg combined for the Trailhawk, compared with a claimed 37 mpg for the regular Cherokee. The lower estimate reflects the Trailhawk's added off-road hardware and less-efficient all-terrain tires.Visually, the Trailhawk is distinguished by red tow hooks at both ends, unique fascias, unique badging, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in those knobby tires. It also gets a hood graphic and a Mantis Green interior with red stitching. The 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhwak will start production later this year in Stellantis' plant in Toluca, Mexico, with prices starting at $44,625.
