Can you name the brand? Well, one of its vehicles is pictured above, so I hope so! First of all, let’s note that the Chinese EV company is not coming to the United States. The country it’s launching into is Mexico. But, hey, it’s notable nonetheless! The Stellantis-linked brand is Leapmotor, of course. Its B10 EREV SUV was just launched with a starting price of $32,895. The vehicle has a 18.8 kWh battery, and a 1.5-liter range-boosting engine. It’s not the most exciting vehicle launch… but it’s a start. Leapmotor has done well in China, of course, but it has also done superbly in markets outside of China, including Europe, as well. The Leapmotor B10 EREV SUV could certainly be a big hit in the US. But it will likely never make it there. Since Stellantis already has dealerships in Mexico, it’s quite easy for the company to bring the Leapmotor brand in. (Note that Stellantis owns 51% of Leapmotor.) “Before the B10 reached showrooms, it spent more than a year undergoing validation and testing at Stellantis’ engineering center in Mexico, where it was adapted for local roads, climate and regulations,” Autoblog shares. BYD might not have had such support, but let’s also note that the leading EV company in the world is already in Mexico as well.
