2027 Chevy Corvette Stringray Can Now Go 200 MPHChevroletThe 2027 Chevy Corvette Stingray now has a validated top speed of 200 mph, making it the most affordable car to be capable of hitting the double-century mark.Corvette customers need to stick with the Stingray's entry-level 1LT trim and skip the Z51 package to get into the 200-mph club. For 2027, the Corvette Stingray inherits a new 535-hp 6.7-liter V-8 and starts at just $73,495.For less than $75,000, you can join the ranks of supercars. That's because the updated 2027 Chevy Corvette Stingray is now the most affordable car on the market with a top speed of 200 mph.For 2027, Chevy unveiled a new generation of its iconic small-block V-8 and stuffed the naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 into the Corvette Stingray and the resurrected Grand Sport. The engine makes 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, which help the entry-level Stingray reach its impressive top speed. Previously, the Stingray and its 6.2-liter V-8 could reach a still respectable 194-mph top speed.ChevroletMike Kociba, Chevy's small-block assistant chief engineer, credits the increased engine power for pushing the Stingray over the edge. He said, "The record really shows the strength of the LS6, an engine that we set out to create a unique place in the Corvette lineup." In addition to its higher validated top speed, Chevy claims the new Stingray can go from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and finish the quarter-mile in 11 seconds flat at 124 mph, but we think the new LS6-powered car will be even quicker than that, considering a Z51-equipped C8 Stingray with the old 6.2-liter had nearly identical results in our tests.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis Stingray isn't the only Corvette to be capable of reaching the double-century mark. The Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X both have claimed top speeds of up to 225 mph, and our test of the 1064-hp ZR1 saw it reach 200 mph in 24.1 seconds. That extra speed comes at a cost, though, as those models start about $115,000 more than the base Stingray.ChevroletThe Stingray also presents a unique case of "less is more." Without the wider bodywork of the Z-spec Corvettes, the slimmer Stingray produces less drag, which improves the aerodynamics that help it reach 200. However, you have to skip the popular Z51 package that includes drag-inducing aero add-ons like a front splitter and rear spoiler, as well as bigger brakes, revised suspension tuning, grippier summer tires, an electronic limited-slip differential, and a shorter final-drive ratio. While it can easily hang with supercars, the C8 Corvette's true speciality is its everyday practicality, whether cruising around town or tearing up the track. Starting at $73,495, the new 2027 Stingray is currently available to order, with the first copies expected to reach Chevy dealers later this year.➡️ Skip the lot.
