The last few years have been chock-full of automakers updating their brands. Just in the past year or so, we've seen Chrysler, Honda, BMW Alpina, and Mazda implement, announce, or preview new badges and logos. Many of these have some significant differences, while others are shockingly subtle. Today's new badge reveal definitely falls into the latter, and even though America won't get the first car it's on, we will eventually get the badge. UPDATE: 2026/04/17 12:23 EST BY JOEL STOCKSDALE Chevy Confirms New Badge For U.S.We received comment back from Chevrolet representatives confirming that the new logo will appear in the U.S., though without word on what model will get it first.Chevrolet No, Really, It's A New Badge This week, Chevrolet announced that it will be launching a new Sonic (more on that in a minute) in South America. It will be revealed next month, and in the meantime, the automaker put out teaser images of the vehicle shrouded in darkness. About the only things really visible in the teasers are the badges, one with an illuminated border, and one with chrome. These are apparently bowties that are different from those on current Chevy models. The press release for the teasers says that they're "more horizontal" than before. They'll also apparently be mainly black, rather than the brass-like gold we're familiar with.Chevrolet If we're being honest, we can hardly tell a difference. We think we might have to get old and new badges and a set of calipers to for taking measurements to find how different it is. The color change is a bit more interesting. While black-out badges have been commonly offered by Chevy in the U.S., basically every model still has the gold version as standard. It won't be the first time Chevy has played with the colors on the bowtie, though. The company has had blue and red variants at different times in its history. Apparently the Sonic will be the first model to get the new badge, followed by others launching next year. This badge won't be exclusive to the South American market, either. We reached out to representatives from Chevy's U.S. office and they confirmed that the new logo will appear here, too. They didn't say anything about what model will be the first to get it, though. If we had to guess, we would say the new Silverado would be a good place for it, since the new truck is slated as the next big release for the brand in America.Chevrolet Yes, Chevy Is Reviving The Sonic Name As for that new Sonic, it's not going to be like the little hatchback we knew in America. The press release describes it as an SUV coupe a la Buick Envista. The silhouette teaser shown on the consumer-facing Chevrolet site suggests that it won't have quite as dramatic a fastback roof as some so-called "coupes," but it does look sleeker than the other SUVs in the South American Chevy lineup.Chevy also revealed the rough size of the new Sonic. It's 166.5 inches long, which is quite small. That's 3 inches shorter than a Chevy Bolt. Chevy says it will fit between the South American Onix hatchback and the Tracker SUV. We doubt we'll see a version of it here, mainly because of the small size. It will probably be a rather cheap vehicle, too, and it might be tough for Chevy to make enough profit on such a vehicle, especially if it had to make any changes for the U.S. market.
