The new electric vehicle charging hub at Melbourne Airport includes truck-friendly drive-through bays, restrooms and free Wi-Fi and is open 24 hours a day. The site is likely to be convenient for travellers, for airport pickups and drop-offs, rideshare drivers, and EV drivers passing through the city’s northern suburbs. The site is entirely powered by renewable electricity from Melbourne Airport’s two on-site solar farms.
“We’re building an integrated mobility network so we can support all our customers in the future,” said Paul Augé, President of bp Australia. “With EV sales reaching record levels in Australia, we’re proud to give our customers more choice.”
The charging hub is located on Airport Drive near Melbourne Airport’s long-term Value Car Park. Chargefox points out that the site further expands charging options available to Chargefox users, with bp pulse chargers already accessible through the Chargefox app.
Augé said EV charging was an important part of bp’s mobility and convenience strategy in Australia. “We’re building an integrated mobility network so we can support all our customers in the future, whether they are professional drivers,
to fleet operators, business travellers or the local community.”
BP operates a network of over 1,400 retail sites and bp pulse charging stations on the continent. The claim to the title of Australia’s largest charging hub may be short-lived. According to Zecar, Tesla has submitted plans for a 37-bay Supercharger site in Albury. This site would snatch the title if indeed approved and built. For the meantime, Melbourne Airport can boast the title.
