BMW i4 Convertible Spotted with Neue Klasse StyleKGP Photography//Car and DriverThe BMW i4 Convertible will wear Neue Klasse styling, though it won't copy the new i3 sedan's look exactly, these spy photos show.Despite a camouflage wrap, we can spot a more upright front end, with flatter headlights and a taller grille than the i3 sedan.Despite sharing its name with the outgoing i4, the new convertible, expected for the 2029 model year, is more of an electric evolution of the current 4-series.BMW's nomenclature surrounding its cars is about to be more convoluted than the plot of Christopher Nolan's Tenet. Previously, there was the first-generation BMW i3, that funky city car that never really took off in the United States, and the BMW i4, essentially an electric BMW 4-series Gran Coupe. But now, we're facing down the barrel of a new BMW i3, with the name instead adorning a compact electric sedan, and there's now proof that BMW is developing a new i4 Convertible, which isn't a droptop version of the outgoing i4, but rather the 4-series equivalent of the new i3. Simple, right?KGP Photography//Car and DriverAt least we know what the i4 Convertible will look like, thanks to new spy photos showing the upcoming model out testing. While the tester was covered in camo, we were still able to discern a few details. Namely, like any good friend cheating off your homework, the i4 Convertible takes heavy inspiration from the i3 but won't copy it exactly.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe new droptop i4 variant sports a fabric roof and adopts BMW's new Neue Klasse design language, seen on the i3, iX3, and new 2027 X5 and iX5. The convertible appears to have a more vertical front end than the i3, complete with flatter headlights and a taller grille. The overall shape is a bit stubbier and more cab-forward than the current 4-series, and at the rear, there are slim taillights.BMW remains mum on details surrounding the i4 Convertible, so nothing is confirmed, but we wouldn't be shocked to see the powertrains mirror those of the i3 and a possible M performance variant added later. We expect the model, presumably along with a coupe version, to arrive for the 2029 model year.➡️ Skip the lot.
