Audi's V-8 Supercar May Get a Spyder VariantAudi (Audi)The Audi Nuvolari supercar may get a convertible variant in the future, the brand's CEO, Gernot Döllner, suggested in an interview with Top Gear. The Nuvolari is Audi's newest supercar—it uses a Lamborghini 10,000-rpm V-8 and three axial-flux electric motors for a combined 987 horsepower. While Audi will build 499 units of the coupe, Döllner hinted that the Nuvolari Spyder—if it ever happens—would be considerably more exclusive.Audi may have just revealed the Nuvolari, but there are already rumors suggesting that the 987-horsepower, carved-from-stone-looking supercar may be getting a Spyder variant in the future. Speaking to Top Gear, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner suggested that a convertible version could be on the way.Audi (Audi)As Audi's new halo project, the Nuvolari's production is being limited to just 499 units, which will keep the supercar appropriately rare. Still, building a few examples of a Nuvolari Spyder wouldn't dilute the waters too much. Top Gear asked Döllner if there will be another 499 Nuvolari Spyders to go along with the coupe, to which he responded in the negative. "Not a Spyder or not 499 of them?" the outlet asked. "Not 499," Döllner reportedly responded with a chuckle.AdvertisementAdvertisementUnfortunately, that's as much as the executive was willing to disclose. We'd be willing to bet that the production run for a folding-roof Nuvolari would be much lower, possibly counting in the tens, rather than the hundreds. We'd also wager that the Spyder variant would carry a hefty price premium over the coupe, which already starts at a not-insignificant $686,613 based on current exchange rates.Performance should be pretty much identical, though. The Nuvolari sources its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 from the Lamborghini Temerario, mating it to a trio of axial-flux motors to create a combined 987 horsepower. The supercar's dynamics were signed off by Audi's F1 drivers, and the top speed exceeds 217 mph.➡️ Skip the lot.
