Image Credit: Bovensiepen. The BMW M5 Touring is already one of the most outrageous performance wagons on sale, but the family behind Alpina has found room to make it even more special. Their new company, Bovensiepen, has revealed the 05 GT, a heavily refined take on BMW's plug-in hybrid super wagon.Bovensiepen may be a new badge, yet the people behind it are deeply familiar to BMW enthusiasts. After BMW absorbed Alpina into its own operations, Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen continued building exclusive BMW-based machines under their family name.Their latest project follows the M4-based Bovensiepen Zagato and takes a different path entirely. Instead of a coachbuilt coupe, the 05 GT is a luxurious long-distance wagon with serious firepower and a hand-finished cabin.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe result feels spiritually close to old-school Alpina philosophy. It is faster, rarer, more elegant, and far more expensive than the standard M5 Touring.Frank Stephenson Gives The M5 Touring A Sharper SuitImage Credit: Bovensiepen. To reshape the M5 Touring, Bovensiepen brought in Frank Stephenson, whose design credits include the original BMW X5, the modern Mini Cooper, the Ferrari F430, and McLaren's early modern design language. The exterior changes are subtle but purposeful. The 05 GT receives a redesigned front apron, larger air intakes, a stainless-steel grille treatment, and a new wraparound lower character line that can be finished in a contrasting color. At the rear, the wagon gains a revised bumper, a roof spoiler, and a titanium Akrapovič exhaust system with four oval outlets. Custom 21-inch forged wheels complete the look, using a double-spoke design that nods to Alpina tradition without copying it directly. The Powertrain Now Makes 790 HorsepowerBovensiepen did not stop at design. The company revised the intake system, recalibrated the engine software, and fitted the lighter Akrapovič titanium exhaust.AdvertisementAdvertisementOutput rises to 790 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque from BMW's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 plug-in hybrid setup. That gives the 05 GT a substantial bump over the standard M5 Touring.Bovensiepen claims the wagon can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 mph. Those numbers put it firmly in supercar territory, only with room for passengers, luggage, and a very fast grocery run.Comfort Still CountsImage Credit: Bovensiepen.Like Alpina before it, Bovensiepen appears focused on effortless speed rather than harsh track-day aggression. The 05 GT receives retuned adaptive dampers, Eibach springs, new support bearings, and additional chassis bracing. The company says the suspension work is designed to improve handling while preserving long-distance comfort. The standard M5 is already brutally capable, while Bovensiepen wants its version to feel calmer, richer, and more composed at speed.AdvertisementAdvertisementPirelli tires with model-specific BOV markings are also part of the package. The changes suggest a wagon built for autobahn dominance rather than lap-time chasing.A Bespoke Cabin With Alpina DNAImage Credit: Bovensiepen.Inside, the 05 GT leans heavily into craftsmanship. Each car receives a numbered plaque, a hand-finished Lavalina leather steering wheel, aluminum shift paddles, and extensive leather upholstery throughout the cabin.Buyers can personalize leather colors, stitching, embroidery, trim materials, and even luggage-area finishes. Bovensiepen says it can accommodate unusual requests, giving the car a coachbuilt feel despite its production BMW roots.Deliveries are expected to begin before the end of 2026. Pricing starts at €198,900 in Germany, or roughly $230,000 before options, making this one of the most exclusive and expensive performance wagons in the world.AdvertisementAdvertisementIf you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
