A rare 812 Competizione Aperta has been wrecked in Malibu. Only 599 examples of the open-top V12 supercar were built. Values have climbed from $700,000 to over $2.5 million. With just 599 examples built, the Ferrari 812 Competizione Aperta has quickly become a highly sought-after collector’s item, now valued at around $2.5 million, despite originally starting at $700,000 just a few years ago. The supercar’s value and rarity make it even sadder to see what’s happened to this one. A couple of days ago, a silver-and-yellow 812 Competizione A was seen cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, but moments later, it was wedged under the rear of what appears to be a Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet. With extensive damage across its front and side, it seems possible that this Ferrari will be declared a write-off by the insurer and sent to auction. Read: This Ferrari’s Value Has Nearly Quadrupled In Just Three Years The cause of the crash hasn’t been confirmed, but with the rear of the Mercedes left resting on the front of the Ferrari, it looks like the driver of the 812 rear-ended the Mercedes convertible. The force of the impact popped the hood, destroyed the Ferrari’s expensive carbon-fiber front bumper, and most likely damaged some components in the engine bay. In addition, it appears the Ferrari’s windshield has been smashed. Due to the angle it seems to have hit the Mercedes, the passenger-side front quarter panel has also taken a beating. As for the Mercedes, most of the damage it sustained appears to be around the rear bumper, and it may be easier, and certainly much cheaper, to repair. If the Ferrari’s insurer decides it’s too costly to fix, it will probably end up being auctioned by someone like Copart. That would be a quiet end for what was meant to be the loudest farewell Maranello had left in it. The Competizione Aperta was the open-top swan song for the 812 platform, built around a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 good for 819 hp (830PS) at a frantic 9,250 rpm and 510 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm.
