47th ASEAN Summit 2025 – longer LRT peak timings; Rapid KL, KLIA Express train frequencies increased

The ministry of transport has announced a series of proactive measures meant to ensure the smooth movement of the public and international delegates during the 47th ASEAN Summit, which takes place in Kuala Lumpur from October 26-28, 2025.

Starting with rail services operated by Rapid KL, peak operating hours on October 27 and 28 will be expanded. In the morning, the peak hours are between 6.30am and 10am on these dates instead of between 7am and 9am on regular days. Meanwhile, the evening peak timing is between 4.30pm and 8pm during the ASEAN Summit instead of between 5pm and 7.30pm on regular days.

Train frequencies will also be increased during the aforementioned dates, although this only affects certain lines. The LRT Kelana Jaya Line will see trains come by every five minutes instead of seven minutes, while it is eight minutes instead of 10 minutes for the KL Monorail.

The LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling see no change to its train frequency, which is five minutes within the KL central business district (CBD). The same applies to both MRT lines (Kajang and Putrajaya) that will see trains come by every 10 minutes. These lines will see extra monitoring in case adjustments need to be made.

For those heading to or from the airport via rail, the usual train frequency of 20 minutes for KLIA Express is reduced to 15 minutes between 9am and 9pm. Outside this period, the frequency returns to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, KLIA Transit will gain an additional train service departing from KLIA Terminal 2 to KL Sentral at 1am. These revisions have already come into effect since October 22 and will remain active until October 28.

Lastly, users of specific Rapid KL bus routes can expect delays on the days of October 27 and 28. The affected routes include 402 (LRT Titiwangsa to LRT Maluri), 302 (LRT Titiwangsa to KLCC), 300 (Pandan Indah Hub to Lebuh Ampang) and 303 (Taman Mulia Jaya to Lebuh Ampang).

The Rapid KL On-Demand route from the Titiwangsa to Chow Kit CBD zones is also affected. In light of this, commuters are advised to use rail services if they intend to travel to KL City Centre (KLCC) and its neighbouring areas.

With road closures and traffic diversions set to take place over the next few days to accommodate the arrival of several world leaders, it’s best to use public transport instead of taking a car or motorcycle should you want to make a trip to the city or airport.
