LinkedIn might not seem like the most obvious website for sharing about new EV chargers, but that is exactly what Love’s Travel Stops did recently. Love’s just launched its three first EV charging stations in Texas at: Natalia, Encinal, and Three Rivers. Each site has four chargers with NACS and CCS ports. There are also eight Tesla Superchargers at Three Rivers. Each charging station is south of San Antonio. The Love’s post stated the new chargers are next to a highway and there are amenities such as restrooms, food and beverages, wi-fi, and canopies. Natalia to Encinal is about 90 miles, which can easily be covered by most EVs. Natalia to Three Rivers is about 76 miles. A LinkedIn commenter wrote, “Very interesting layout. Dedicating a separate EV island with its own canopy is a clever way to keep traffic fluid and avoid interference with the fuel lanes. It also improves the customer experience while charging and creates more opportunities to drive traffic into the store. Smart design!” Love’s plans to install and launch more EV charging stations in Texas this year. This EV charger news is noteworthy because Love’s is mainstream America. Walmart and Kroger have also announced plans to install more EV chargers at their retail locations. Sheetz, Wawa, and Shoprite all have EV chargers with more coming. (Pilot Travel Centers will be getting semi chargers.) The new Texas and Maine chargers are also remarkable because adding new EV chargers in areas somewhat near cities and in between cities supports long-distance EV driving. The more public EV chargers there are, the less distance there is between chargers so EV drivers can have less “range anxiety.” In the last 5–6 months, the US has seen a steady stream of new EV charger installations. In Maine, there are four new fast chargers near Bangor at the Alltown Convenience Market in Orono. There are two NACS ports and two CCS ports. “We’re thrilled with the completion of our first EV charging station in Maine. This project represents a meaningful step in our commitment to providing best-in-class fueling options for all of our guests while helping Maine continue to advance its climate and clean energy objectives,” said James Cater, Senior Director of Sustainability Strategy and Innovation at Global Partners.
