Back in December, we got our first look at the new Kia Seltos when it made its global debut. Today, the Seltos made its official American debut at the New York International Auto Show. Kia also confirmed what powertrains and trims will be offered in the US model, as well as provided more details on its littlest SUV's specifications and features. Still, we'll be waiting a little while for more information, and for the SUV to go on sale, as the combustion models don't launch until the second quarter of this year, and the hybrids even later. What Powers The New Seltos KiaKia shared three different combustion-only powertrain options with the global debut, two of which use a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder. The lower-output turbo engine is available with a manual or a dual-clutch automatic, and as we expected, it won't come to America. Instead, we'll be getting the high-output engine that only comes with an 8-speed automatic. At the other end of the combustion-engine spectrum is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder that's paired with a CVT.According to the earlier reveal, the 2.0-liter engine makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. It will be offered on every trim level. The turbo 1.6-liter engine, on the other hand, will only be available on the X-Line, and it makes 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will also be available with either front- or all-wheel-drive.KiaKia didn't share as much about the hybrid, but did confirm that it will use a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter four-cylinder, and it will come with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. We believe that it's the same powertrain found in the Kia Niro and Hyundai Elantra hybrids, and so it should have 139 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. That would be for the front-drive powertrain, but the hybrid will also have an all-wheel-drive version.Kia says it will have an "e-AWD" drivetrain, which we assume means that a second motor will be used to power the rear wheels as needed. Kia also says this version of the hybrid will make a bit more power. Unfortunately, Kia still hasn't given fuel economy estimates for the hybrid or any of the other powertrains. It's Bigger, Inside And Out KiaAs previously discussed, Kia made the Seltos a bit larger with this new generation. It's 1.8 inches longer overall with a 2.4-inch longer wheelbase. It's about an inch wider, too. While we assumed this would result in a more spacious interior, we didn't have actual specifications to go off of, until now.Kia says cargo space is now 27.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and 64.1 behind the front seats. Those are increases of 1.2 and 1.3 cu. ft. respectively. The automaker also claims more passenger space in pretty much every direction, including about an inch of extra rear legroom.Furthermore, Kia says that the X-Line, which is a more rugged-looking trim designed to have a tad bit more off-road capability, features more ground clearance. The old Seltos topped out at 7.3 in., and the new X-Line reaches 8.1 in. That matches a standard Jeep Compass.Four different trims will be available for the new Seltos: LX, S, EX, and X-Line. The X-Line seemingly replaces the SX. Kia gave the most information about the X-Line, which, in addition to the slightly different body work, gets larger 18-in. alloy wheels as standard (instead of 16-in.). The turbocharged and hybrid versions of the X-Line get 19-in. units. The interior features faux leather and seats with adjustable lumbar, and the Prestige version gets the fully reclining Relaxation Seat from Kia's and Hyundai's EVs.Every Seltos is pretty well-equipped, though. They all get a 12.3-in. infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, parking sensors, automatic headlights, lane-centering, and automatic emergency braking front and rear. Available options include a 12.3-inch instrument display and blind-spot monitoring with video displays. We should know even more about the features and options available, along with actual pricing, closer to when the new Seltos goes on sale.2027 Kia Seltos front three-quarter
