Previewed last December, the C28-generation Nissan Serena e-Power has been slated for a Malaysian-market launch in March this year, according to Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) executive VP Christopher Tan. Pricing for the C28 Serena is estimated to be between RM160,000 and RM180,000.In terms of customer response, ETCM has received 400 bookings for the C28 Serena so far, Tan said. As denoted by its e-Power suffix, the most significant change in the latest Serena is its powertrain, which is a HR14DDe 1.4 litre naturally-aspirated inline-three petrol engine that produces 98 PS and 123 Nm. This functions exclusively as a generator for the 1.77 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor between the front seats. The battery powers a single 163 PS/315 Nm drive motor for the front wheels. Claimed fuel consumption is 18.5 km per litre on the NEDC test cycle. While there are variants of the C28 Serena in Japan with the MR20DD 2.0 litre naturally aspirated petrol powertrain, ETCM aims to market the C28 with the 1.4 litre e-Power setup, and does not intend to revert to the 2.0L unit for Malaysia, Tan said. So far, ETCM has revealed specifications for the Serena in sole Premium Highway Star trim, which features tri-beam LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, black Nappa leather upholstery, keyless entry and start with walk-away auto lock, six airbags and 16-inch wheels shod in tyres measuring 205/65R16. This also gets a driving assistance suite as standard, which is comprised of forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and an around view monitor. Also featured here is the Nissan ProPilot semi-autonomous driving suite, which brings adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist as well as blind spot intervention, the latter gently applies steering or brake assist when attempting to make a lane change while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. Four exterior colours are offered for the C28-generation Serena, which are Diamond Black, Turquoise Blue, Brilliant White and Dark Metal Grey, the latter three being two-tone schemes with a black roof. This comes with a five-year, 100,000-km vehicle warranty as standard, while its e-Power components (motor, battery, energy management) are covered for eight years or 160,000 km. This will go on sale in Malaysia from early-March this year, which pricing estimated to be between RM160k to RM180k, locally assembled (CKD) in Serendah from the outset.
