For 2026, the Kymco AK550 Premium maxi-scooter will be sold in Malaysia as CKD, and priced at RM55,888. This is an almost RM10,000 reduction from the previous 2024 price of RM65,600, when the AK550 was launched in Malaysia by distributor Modenas as a CBU model. With the CKD price excluding road tax, insurance and registration, this makes the 2026 CKD AK550 competitive against local maxi-scooter market competition such as the Yamaha TMax 560 and the SYM Maxsym TL508. The AK550 Premium is powered by a parallel-twin cross plane engine, displacing 550.4 cc. Kymco says the AK550 gets 50.9 hp at 7,500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 52 at 6,000 rpm, going to the rear wheel via automatic CVT transmission and belt drive. Aiding the AK550’s ride ability is two power modes – Power and Rain. Holding this 238 maxi scooter to the ground is upside-down forks in front, non-adjustable, and a preload adjustable monoshock in the rear. Wheel sizing is identical front and rear, with 15-inch wheels, shod with 12-/70 and 160/60 tyres. Braking on the AK550 is done with a four-piston Bribe calliper on the front wheel, clamping a 270 diameter disc, with a two-piston calliper at the back working on a 260 mm disc. Coming with a parking brake, the AK550 is also equipped with a smart cornering ABS system that uses sensors to control braking function in every road condition. Riding conveniences on the AK550 Prey include an electrically-adjustable windshield, cruise control and smart key system. There is also a storage compartment under the seat that holds a single full-face and a single open-face helmet. Riding information is displayed on a round TFT-LCD digital screen with Kymco’s Noodoe app enabling connectivity to the rider’s smartphone for display of navigation, and control of music and calls. The AK550 Premium carries 14.5-litres of fuel in the tank, while seat height is set at 785 mm and two colour options are offered – Black and Flat Brown.
