Audi Q5 Advanced 2.0 TFSI The third-generation Audi Q5 went on sale in Malaysia yesterday, and now we get to see the car in the flesh in both regular and Sportback “coupé” guises. Arriving CBU fully imported from the car’s global manufacturing base in Mexico, this compact executive SUV arrives seemingly well-equipped to take on the likes of the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Despite its CBU status, the standard Q5 Advanced 2.0 TFSI is pretty well-priced at RM352,990 nett (RM354,224 on-the-road without insurance), making it just over RM33,000 more expensive than the CKD locally-assembled BMW X3 20 xDrive. Both come with a basic two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty; opt for the Audi Assurance Package (AAP) five-year service and maintenance package and the Audi’s figure jumps to RM371,224. Remember, the previous-generation model used to cost upwards of RM480,000. As you’d expect, the sportier, um, Sportback is a decidedly pricier proposition. Offered in a higher S Line 2.0 TFSI quattro specification, it retails at RM421,990 nett (RM423,224 on-the-road without insurance), a RM69,000 (nice) premium. Add on the five-year AAP and you’re looking at a final figure of RM440,224. Audi Q5 Advanced 2.0 TFSI The discrepancy in prices betray the gulf in specification. Although both models use the same EA888 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, the one in the boggo Q5 produces 199 PS from 4,300 rpm to 4,000 rpm and 340 Nm between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm. Even though it lacks a mild hybrid system, it’s slightly more powerful than the base X3’s mill, although here it only drives the front wheels (via a seven-speed DSG wet dual-clutch transmission, no less). Fuel consumption is quoted at 7.7 litres per 100 km. The Sportback boosts the four-pot to an impressive 272 PS from 5,000 rpm to 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm between 1,600 rpm and 4,500 rpm – all sent to Audi’s trademark quattro all-wheel drive system. More power and more driven wheels means less efficiency, so the car drinks 8.2 litres of petrol per 100 km. Built on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform as the new A5, the new Q5 debuts a softer, less angular design language, retaining the basic proportions but with more rounded lights and haunches. The hexagonal “singleframe” grille is also slimmer, flanked by trapezoidal matrix LED headlights with customisable daytime running light signatures. Audi Q5 Sportback S line 2.0 TFSI quattro At the rear, you’ll find full-width LED “pro” taillights with tiny intricate clusters, along with genuine twin rectangular tailpipes (no more fakes, finally!). The Q5’s Advanced spec adds a metallic grey finish for the grille, vertical air inlets and body cladding, and it rides on 19-inch, ten-spoke aero alloy wheels. Just like before, the Sportback features a sloping rear roofline for a more dynamic look, at the expense of rear headroom and boot space. The S line package also throws on bulging front corner inlets and a more aggressive rear bumper with a diffuser-like design, plus red brake callipers and 20-inch Audi Sport turbine-style alloys. Added to the kit list here is an upgraded third brake light that projects a second pattern onto the rear windscreen, helping to increase their visibility and improve overall safety. Inside, the Q5 continues the tech-heavy approach of Audi’s other new models, with a “Digital Stage” curved widescreen panel housing 11.9-inch instrument and 14.5-inch infotainment OLED displays. No passenger touchscreen on Malaysian-spec models, but you do get the latest Multi Media Interface (MMI) built on the Android Automotive operating system, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, upgraded Audi Assistant voice control with ChatGPT integration, and a smartphone-based Digital Key. Audi Q5 Sportback S line 2.0 TFSI quattro Both models come with the ambient lighting package plus, adding 30 customisable colours and a wraparound strip above the dashboard. Down below, the centre console features an inverted L-shaped illuminated spar and houses a cooled 15-watt Qi wireless charger. The Advanced model brings with it comfort suspension, a conventional round steering wheel with paddle shifters, power-adjustable front seats with lumbar adjustment and driver’s side memory, black faux and genuine leather combination upholstery, silver-grey Lime Natural Sediment trim and eight speakers. Stepping up to the Sportback S line nets you sportier passive frequency-selective dampers, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with a flat top and bottom, ventilated sports seats with embossed S logos, black headlining, Carbon Micro Twill structure trim, a head-up display and a 16-speaker, 685-watt Bang and Olufsen surround sound system. The four USB-C ports are also upgraded to 60 watts at the front and a staggering 100 watts at the rear, the latter able to charge even the most power-hungry MacBook Pro. The rest of the standard kit is identical and includes triple-zone auto air con, heat-insulating windows with an acoustic glass windscreen, park assist, a 360-degree camera setup, sliding and reclining rear seats and a hands-free powered tailgate. The Advanced model offers 520 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,473 litres with the rear seats folded, while the less practical Sportback S line gives away little in luggage capacity with the rear seats up (515 litres) but more so with those pews down (1,415 litres). Safety-wise, both models come with a full complement of standard safety features. These encompass seven airbags (including a front centre airbag), autonomous emergency braking with junction turning auto brake, evasive steering assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert with auto brake, a door opening warning, a driver attention monitor, a rear seat reminder and adaptive high beam. The Q5 exterior colour palette includes Grenadine Red, Mythos Black and Glacier White, with the Advanced model also available in Navarra Blue and Tambora Grey. Meanwhile, the Sportback S line can be had in exclusive Daytona Grey Pearl and District Green Metallic.
