Image Credit: TheSketchMonkeyThe 2027 Mercedes GLC is here, and the car is one of the most important SUVs in the Mercedes lineup. It offers plenty of luxury, yet the SUV isn't so big that driving it becomes a nightmare, and it's something other manufacturers have tried to emulate.Yet one YouTuber has asked whether the new version of the SUV is actually worth it. TheSketchMonkey has posed the question: should you buy the current version of the GLC or wait for the 2027 model and get that one instead? There are, of course, plenty of things to consider if you are looking to buy a Mercedes GLC. There is, of course, the cost of the cars, and whether you find the 2027 model more appealing than the current iteration. There is also the powertrain factor: whether you want a fully electric GLC or are happy with a hybrid.AdvertisementAdvertisementThese, and more, are some of the questions posed by the YouTuber in his video. It doesn't make it the easiest decision, and there are inevitable pros and cons to both versions of the Mercedes. But even with this new model on the way, the current GLC still seems worth the money. What Is the Current Mercedes GLC Like? They might share the same badge, but they do offer very different interpretations of what a modern Mercedes is like. The current GLC has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, with a 48-volt hybrid system. That provides 255hp and 295lb-ft of torque, and four-wheel drive is available if you select the 4MATIC model. There is also the slightly more powerful plug-in hybrid GLC 350e model, which has 313hp and 406lb-ft of torque, which is, of course, plenty of power. You also get up to 54 miles of electric-only driving, perfect for short commutes to work or if you are popping out to the shops. There are, of course, AMG models as well, such as the AMG GLC 63SE Performance. So what does the new one offer compared to the current version? The biggest difference is that Mercedes has gone all-in on electrification with the new model. The first US version is the GLC 400 4MATIC Electric, giving owners 483hp and 590lb-ft of torque. This level of power is something the YouTuber thinks is a little bit excessive, especially given that this is a family car and not something you will want to drive fast. "This new GLC is a completely different vehicle," he said in the video. What Are the Costs for the Two Mercedes SUVs?Image Credit: TheSketchMonkeyCost is another factor to consider with both versions of the SUV. The current version of the GLC starts at around $49,550, or $51,550 if you have opted for the 4MATIC model. Yet with the new electric GLC, the cost is expected to be a lot higher at around $60,000, potentially rising as high as $72,000. It is for this reason that TheSketchMonkey thinks buying the current model, second-hand, is the way to go.AdvertisementAdvertisementThere are, however, some good points to the new model. You do have a bit more room in the upcoming version, as well as the addition of a frunk for extra luggage capacity. The electric version will also future-proof you, as so many manufacturers are becoming more heavily invested in the EV world. Much of it comes down to what the individual customer needs and wants. While TheSketchMonkey recommends the current version, buyers themselves may have a different opinion. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
