Image Credit: BMWA woman has warned against buying a particular type of car, specifically a BMW, if it is incredibly hot where you live. That could apply to lots of places in America right now, given the extreme heat that has been seen in recent times.TikTok creator Ellie Peterson (@elliepeterson3), however, is from Dallas in North Texas, and this is an area that gets particularly hot during the summer. That rings very true in 2026, as temperatures recently reached 102-105 degrees Fahrenheit. That, according to Peterson, has been causing a lot of issues.Peterson is the owner of a BMW X3 SUV, and it's a car that she clearly likes a lot. But she has said that the heat has actually been melting parts of the car and damaging it, causing all sorts of issues.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn the video, Peterson shows herself touching some of the surfaces in the BMW and how some of the black comes off in her hands, with it clearly having suffered a little bit of damage in the extreme sunlight. That has led to a few people watching her TikTok, which has gone viral, revealing a similar situation. What Did the Dallas Heat Do to the BMW X3?In Peterson's video, we see her inside the BMW X3, where she discusses what has gone wrong. "So, I'm officially due for a new car," she said at the start of the video. "My car is falling apart, and I don't recommend BMW because it has completely melted in the Dallas heat," she added. After voicing her displeasure, Peterson then showed what had been going wrong. We see her dip her hand into the interior door handle, with the black plastic coming right off in her hands. "The black comes off on your hands every single time I get in my car—on both sides," she said. Clearly, something has gone quite wrong with her X3.Incredibly, this isn't the first time that this has been reported. YouTuber Chesapeake Motorwerks posted a video on the issue around two years ago. That video was titled "How to Replace Sticky BMW X3 Interior Door Handles," and the video revealed that the door handles of the X3 are made from an incredibly soft material. That causes them to degrade faster, which then causes the black residue to appear on your hands, as Peterson showed in her TikTok. The heat makes the situation worse. How Can You Prevent This From Happening?Image Credit: BMWThe YouTuber went on to explain in his video how you could get around the problem. Chesapeake Motorwerks said that to protect the handle, you could buy an aftermarket part that goes on top of it. Think of it as an extra layer to the door handle. The installation of the handle can be done in seconds, at most a couple of minutes, and it avoids a costly and complex replacement that might require removing the entire door panel.AdvertisementAdvertisementVarious BMW owners have reported similar issues online. Not just on the X3, but on other models from the German manufacturer as well. Thankfully, it appears there is a wide variety of these door handle covers that are specifically designed to target doors that go sticky and melt. Viewers of Peterson's video also discussed similar issues. "The same thing happened to my sister's BMW in high school (we're also from Dallas)," said one viewer. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
