Shoppers looking at one of the six available trim levels may not know which one to purchase, but we can make the decision easier. If you are considering a CX-90, here's our closer look at the lineup to determine which trim offers the best value, saving you time.Which Mazda CX-90 Trim Level Is the Best? All CX-90 trims feel luxurious, with even the base Select trim getting leatherette-trimmed seats as standard. The Preferred and Premium Sport upgrade to real leather with heated and ventilated front seats as well as heated rear seats, plus a heated steering wheel. Buyers who want the most bang for their buck should consider the Premium Sport trim for $49,010. This version is a step up from the $40,830 Select and $44,980 Preferred, but sits below the $51,800 Premium Plus (pictured at top).AdvertisementAdvertisementWe recommend the Premium Sport because it adds desirable features such as black wheels, 12-speaker Bose surround sound, built-in navigation, traffic sign recognition, and Sirius satellite radio. Opting for the Premium Sport trim also brings a drive mode selector with sport, off-road, and towing modes.Second-row seating in the CX-90 Turbo S.Marc Urbano - Car and DriverWhich Options Should You Consider? The Premium Sport only offers a few options. The $900 Premier Tow option includes a trailer hitch, harness, tow ball mount, and brake controller to take advantage of the 5000-pound tow rating on Premium Sport and above trims (trims below this only tow 3500 pounds). For $700, an Essential Tow package includes just the hitch and harness. Other options you might consider include $800 for a digital rearview mirror and the no-cost option to swap the rear bench seat for captain's chairs, reducing the CX-90's seating capacity from eight to seven.Marc Urbano - Car and DriverWhat Do I Miss Out On in the Higher Trim Levels? The two highest trims, the S Premium Sport for $55,760 and S Premium Plus for $59,100, get a more highly tuned engine delivering 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. In our testing, the S Premium Plus hit 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Both S trims add an interior camera system that allows you to create a driver profile that remembers your seat and mirror settings. The S Premium Plus is the most luxurious with its nappa-leather-trimmed seats, premium accents, ventilated second-row seats, and rear console.Mazda also offers the CX-90 as a plug-in hybrid that comes in three trim levels, but we review it separately.AdvertisementAdvertisementMazda also offers the non-S Premium Plus trim, which brings a few features that are not available on any other CX-90 Turbo model, including the nappa-leather-trimmed seats, front cross-traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, adaptive front lighting, a windshield de-icer, and a 150-watt power outlet. The standard 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six produces 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, which most buyers should find adequate.Every Mazda CX-90 is a premium, near-luxury SUV that lets you avoid the big expense of a luxury vehicle. No matter which one you choose, it will deliver an enthusiastic driving experience at a mainstream price.➡️ Skip the lot.
