Volvo Could Bring EV Station Wagon to U.S. by '28Volvo CarsThe last new Volvo station wagon sold in America, the V60 Cross Country, is being discontinued this year. That leaves the company without either a sedan or a wagon in America next year, making the brand crossover-only for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, a new report suggests that this particular future may not last long at all.Citing a source "briefed on the discussions," Automotive News reports that Volvo is weighing bringing a new, all-electric mid-sized sedan and wagon to hit the American market in 2028. Both models are currently being developed for Europe, according to the report, where they would be sold with the usual -60 or -70 branding common over the past few decades of Volvos in this particular size. A Cross Country model is also allegedly possible, potentially bridging the gap of American interest in wagons by lining the new Volvo up against lifted crossover-like estates from Audi and Mercedes-Benz.Polestar, another Geely-owned company initially spun off from Volvo's own racing division, has been forced to exit the U.S. market after the 2027 model year. Volvo is notably targeting 2028 to get its new sedan and wagon in showrooms, meaning that these cars could potentially fill the market positions that Geely had initially planned to fight in with the Polestar 2 and 4 SUV announced back in February. Will Sabel CourtneySince these cars were reportedly already in development for Europe, however, it's likely safe to assume that they have been planned as more than just a way to bring Polestar's products back to America. The AN report suggests that it would be built on the company's third-generation Scalable Product Architecture, putting it on the same platform as the current Volvo EX60 and upcoming Polestar 7.AdvertisementAdvertisementGiven that a potential 2028 debut could happen in as little as 18 months, Volvo should presumably make a decision on whether or not America is getting this particular sedan and wagon sooner rather than later. If it does happen, do not expect major volume; the report claims that Volvo is projecting just 10,000 annual combined sales Stateside over these mid-sized car models. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
