Hi, this is Volkswagen. We're trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas. VW is about to reveal a brand-new version of its bestseller and biggest model, and it really, really, really wants to make sure you're aware it's coming on March 31. The latest teaser is a side-view profile, but it might not have the effect the automaker had intended. This Is A Big Deal For VW Volkswagen The three-row Atlas isn't just big physically, it's big for VW. The US-built crossover is just shy of being the top-selling Volkswagen in the US, if you count the Atlas Cross Sport, which is nearly identical, it crushes the number one spot. So getting your attention, and then getting you to the showroom, is important. We've already seen teasers that include a close look at the taillight and a look at the very lit-up dashboard. Volkswagen even got CarBuzz behind the wheel to experience parts of the new Atlas in advance. Now it has revealed the full profile, even if it is blacked-out in silhouette to hide the details.CarBuzz/Valnet What's the problem, then? Well, it's the roofline. Volkswagen has said that this is an all-new model, built on a different platform than the existing vehicle. Or at least the upgraded version of that platform. But if you overlay the old and new models, the roofline is identical. So in profile, like the teaser, it looks like VW is hiding the same car you can buy today. That doesn't mean it will be the same, but optics are important (otherwise it wouldn't have a teaser campaign at all). It's also a bit of a fool's errand. The VW Terramont Pro has been on sale in China for a year. It's pretty much the new Atlas VW is teasing, just with a different badge. VW's Third Attempt To Make Atlas Fancy Volkswagen The new interior will mark the third time that VW has tried to move Atlas upscale. When it was first revealed back in 2016, Volkswagen was in the middle of a cost-cutting push, and with the two facelifts that model received, it added more premium elements each time. Expect this one to elevate that, at least based on the teaser from last week.Volkswagen hasn't changed the 117.3-inch wheelbase, so expect the same big cabin as before. It's not as large as the Chevy Traverse, but the Atlas is one of the larger models in its segment. That goes for its ability to carry cargo, as well.We don't know if the new Atlas will get hybrid power, but we do know there will be a new engine. Sort of, at least. It's a 2.0-liter turbo EA888 like before, but this is the newest generation. It has a variable geometry turbo, more boost, and a revised combustion cycle. Power output will probably be higher than the current version's 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, but not by much.To see the whole thing, you'll need to wait a little bit longer. The reveal happens March 31, and we'll bring it to you then. Expect the Atlas Cross Sport to get the same changes, but it's on a different timeline and that could happen a year or more down the road.
