Proton continues to top the electric vehicle (EV) sales chart for 2026, with the 1,802 units it recorded in February giving it both the monthly and overall lead (5,078 units YTD). The lion’s share of the month’s numbers was contributed by the eMas 5, with 1,562 units sold last month. In second place was BYD, which managed 469 registrations last month (1,382 YTD). With 294 units (745 YTD) sold in February, iCaur moved up a spot into third in both the monthly and YTD chart. Meanwhile, MG had a strong month, with its 206 units (375 YTD) propelling it from seventh in January to fourth in February. In fifth was Zeekr, which sold 191 vehicles last month, with those numbers giving it a YTD total of 680 units, placing it fourth in the overall sales chart for the year so far. Sixth position for the month was secured by Tesla, with 144 units sold (320 YTD). The rest of the top 20 didn’t hit the 100-unit mark last month. In seventh place was Leapmotor, with 90 units (261 YTD), while Xpeng was in eighth position, recording 75 units last month (172 YTD). In ninth was TQ Wuling, with its recently-launched Bingo managing 66 units (101 YTD), and 10th spot was taken by Volvo, with the brand selling 46 cars last month (74 YTD). From that point on, the gap that splits positions 11 to 14 in the monthly chart is down to a couple of units. BMW leads that pack in 11th place with 32 units (72 YTD), just ahead of rival Mercedes-Benz, which recorded 31 units in February, but is ahead in YTD numbers with 114 units sold so far this year. As for MINI and Great Wall Motor (GWM), both recorded 30 units last month, but the Chinese brand is ahead in the overall chart (81 vs Mini’s 53 YTD). Next was Dongfeng, with 26 units (69 YTD), followed by smart, which sold 25 cars last month (63 YTD). The final four positions for February were secured by Denza (17 units, 72 YTD), Honda (11 units, not placed in top 20 list as yet), Porsche (11 units, 43 YTD) and Chery, which managed to sell nine EVs last month. Despite there being 10 months left in the year, it does look like the leader is pulling away, but there’s plenty to play for elsewhere, especially in the upper and mid-table.
