It's hard to resist the temptations of the manufacturer's options list when specifying the details on any new car. Most buyers will splurge a few thousand dollars on maybe bigger wheels, special paint, or an upgraded stereo. For the original buyer of this 2019 Koenigsegg Regera hypercar, however, his bill for extras totaled more than $1 million. And that was on top of the car's original $2.213 million base price.The additions included $285,000 for the downforce-enhancing Ghost Package, and $250,000 for the Environmental Power Upgrade that enables the Regera's twin-turbo V-8 run on E85 biofuel, increasing max overall output to 1,500 hp and 944 ft lbs of torque. Then there was the $170,000 for the "One Shade Darker Candy Apple Red" paint, the $57,000 for the Tresex AirCore carbon-fiber wheels, and over $70,000 for a bespoke interior featuring Desiato Black leather—with quilted trim in burgundy—complemented by carbon-fiber accents. A five-year extended warranty, that's now expired? "It's also the only one built in this color combination. And with those million dollars' worth of options, it has to be one of the best, if not the best-equipped, Regeras to come out of Koenigsegg's Ängelholm factory in Sweden."The Regera features a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and body, and is distinguished by those striking dihedral synchro-helix doors.Unveiled in 2015, the Regera—Swedish for "reigns"—was Koenigsegg's first plug-in-hybrid hypercar, and a more practical, grand-touring alternative to the hardcore Agera and, later, Jesko models. At its heart is an in-house-developed 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged, dry-sump V-8 that works in conjunction with three British-built YASA electric motors. That trio is powered by a 4.5 kWh, 800-volt liquid-cooled battery pack developed by Rimac and, at the time, claimed to be the most power-dense battery pack ever created for a production car. The interior features Desiato Black leather—with quilted trim in burgundy—complemented by carbon-fiber accents.The model's other landmark innovation was its single-speed Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) transmission. This couples the engine and electric motors to the rear wheels to replace a traditional, multispeed gearbox. It helps catapult the Regera from zero to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds, and on to a top speed of 251 mph. Back in 2019, the Regera set a zero-to-249 mph acceleration record of 31.49 seconds; in 2023 it went back to the track and improved the time to 28.81 seconds.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Regera features a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and body, and is distinguished by those striking dihedral synchro-helix doors. The latter swing outwards and rotate 90 degrees upwards for a unique and dramatic effect. The car also comes with a removable hardtop that stows under the front hood.The Regera catapults from zero to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 251 mph.The example crossing the auction block, chassis No. 7226, was delivered new to Koenigsegg dealer Manhattan Motorcars in January of 2020. Its first owner is described as a well-known Long Island–based supercar collector, who named the car "Elegua" after the mythic Latin America deity of roads.Its first steward kept the Regera until 2024, showing it at the Bridge car show in Bridgehampton, Conn., in 2022. It's reported that, in mid-2024, the car was sold to California collector Jeff Miller, cofounder of the software giant ProKarma. At around the same time, Miller became the first U.S. customer to receive a new $3 million Koenigsegg Jesko Attack track missile. He added it to his already A-list assemblage that included a McLaren P1 and Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport.With all the extras, this Regera was priced new at $3.241 million.Miller decided to let the Regera go a year later, offering it in a Sotheby's Motorsport online auction in February of 2025. It reached a high bid of $2.6 million, but failed to meet the reserve. It was back on the auction block in May of this year, at the Bonhams auction in Miami, showing just 3,000 miles on its odometer. Bad weather kept the crowds thin, with 11 of the 31 lots failing to sell, and others selling below their pre-sale estimates. The Regera was one of those casualties, fetching $2.52 million. "We have high hopes for the Regera, which is why we predict it will sell in the $3.5 million to $4 million range.
