In a world where the automotive industry is increasingly advanced, the Morgan Motor Company harkens back to a classic era of motoring. The automaker has been around since 1910 and has carved out a niche by building sports cars with a classic recipe of an engine under a long hood driving the rear wheels, with a styling language that hasn't changed much in decades. The company's latest creation is the Supersport 400, and it's the most powerful road-going Morgan yet. Standing as the brand's new flagship product, the model packs an impressive 402 horsepower while still adhering to Morgan's classic shape. Here's what you need to know about it. A Super Sporty Morgan MorganThe new Supersport 400 is the first production model from Morgan to make over 400 hp. Under the retro-looking hood is a thoroughly modern BMW B58 turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that connects to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The powertrain is enough to get the sports car to 62 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds. While Morgan has used ash wood for some structural elements of its vehicles, the Sportsport 400 rides on the brand's CXV-Generation bonded-aluminum platform. It also comes standard with Nitron dampers that provide 24 clicks of damping adjustment so that a buyer can tailor the suspension to the person's specific preferences. A set of 19-inch Sportlite wheels available in silver or bronze and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires put the power down. There's also an optional limited-slip differential and an Active Performance Exhaust System to give the engine a more exhilarating sound."From the outset, our aim has been to create a vehicle that is sharper and more deliberate, ensuring the additional power is delivered in a way that feels balanced, intuitive and deeply rewarding for the driver. At the same time, a subtle design evolution gives Supersport 400 a more distinct and purposeful character."- Matthew Hole, managing director, Morgan Motor Company Classically Retro MorganAesthetically, the Supersport 400 still looks like a Morgan but with some modern touches. The blocky front fascia and rectangular inlets in the corners create a visual contrast against the curved elements on the hood and headlights. Three tiny wipers are on the windshield. There are also subtle vents on the front fenders and near the hood's leading edge. There are still sweeping flanks and a low beltline, like on older Morgans. The steeply raked rear deck doesn't look like it can hold much luggage, but it has a striking appearance. These images show the Supersport 400 with the optional fixed removable roof, which is available in several colors. The car comes standard with a folding fabric top.The interior mixes modern and retro elements. There's no infotainment screen, but there is a digital display in the instrument panel. Large analog gauges for the tachometer and speedometer dominate the center of the dashboard, and there's a clock in the center. Buyers can select from a variety of Alcantara or leather upholstery colors, and there's wood trim available for the center console. A dark-gray anodized aluminum gear shift is also an option for buyers.MorganMorgan plans to build each Supersport 400 by commission, meaning that owners get to specify the car to their personal style. On the outside, the company is offering four new satin-finish paint colors: Forged Grey, Silk Silver, Sail Silver, and Horizon Blue. Coral orange accents are available for the exterior graphics, brake calipers, and interior trim. The Supersport 400 is available to order now with prices starting at £112,965 ($152,475 at current exchange rates). The first deliveries begin in May. Morgan is not discussing availability in the United States. The company's current American lineup consists of the Super 3 and the turbocharged four-cylinder-powered Plus Four that retails for $92,995.shot04Source: Morgan
