Tesla’s Roadster page now features a countdown pointing to an October 1 reveal. Four apparent plumes and faint lettering suggest a tease about the car taking flight. The announcement doesn’t establish when production will begin or customers will receive their cars. Tesla has given Roadster fans another date to circle, and this time, the teaser comes with what look like thrusters. Nearly nine years after unveiling its next-generation sports car, the company is pointing to October 1 for its next big moment. That alone would be enough to get reservation holders checking their calendars. Look closer, though, and there’s a faint message suggesting Tesla wants everyone thinking about more than driving. Tesla’s announcement on X carries the caption “Go for launch,” while its Roadster webpage now displays a countdown alongside the same mysterious image. The graphic shows a sweeping red light beneath four bright plumes or beams, with “10.01” printed below. Faint lettering reads “WHERE WE’RE GOING,” an apparent nod to Doc Brown’s famous line about not needing roads in Back to the Future. The image doesn’t explain what those four bright streams represent, or whether it would appear on a customer car. Go for launch pic.twitter.com/Khu03eiZ04— Tesla (@Tesla) September 12, 2026 It does, however, give Tesla something more compelling to show than another acceleration claim. Whether October 1 delivers a functioning demonstration, a revised prototype, or something closer to a production vehicle remains the important question. We’ve Been Here Before Tesla first showed the second-generation Roadster in November 2017, with deliveries originally expected in 2020. Its advertised numbers included 0–60 mph (96 km/h) in 1.9 seconds, a top speed exceeding 250 mph (402 km/h), and 620 miles (998 km) of range. Those were extraordinary promises, and they remain promises for the undelivered car. Frankly, if the only thing Tesla achieves in that stack is the acceleration figure, it’ll be a huge letdown since several cars can pull that off today. More recently, Musk suggested during Tesla’s April earnings call that a debut could happen in roughly a month, citing testing and validation before a demonstration. That window passed, too. Rumors surfaced about an August launch. For now, October 1 gives us another date to watch, rather than a confirmed delivery schedule. Given Tesla’s record of missed deadlines, delivering customer-ready Roadsters before the end of the year would unquestionably be more impressive. hidden message, “WHERE WE’RE GOING” pic.twitter.com/qrUkLMMHaR — Max West (@max_west07) September 12, 2026
