Range-Extended EVs Are The Next Big Thing. AITO Is Bringing Them To The Arab Market

Among the highlights of the Munich Motor Show 2025 is AITO, a Chinese brand that chose Europe's biggest automotive expo to unveil the new AITO 9.

This is a large SUV that exceeds 16 feet (5 meters) in length and, in its new five-seat configuration, offers some high-level technical and technological solutions.

From the electric drive with a range-extender—meaning a gas engine that exists to recharge the battery—to its intelligent suspension, and an interior focused on comfort and entertainment, the AITO 9 presents itself as a direct challenge to more established premium manufacturers.

AITO 9: The Exterior

The AITO 9 is the new flagship of the Chinese brand, presented in the five-seat version at the Munich Motor Show 2025. With 17 feet in length (5.2 meters) and a wheelbase of more than 10 feet (3.1 meters), it ranks among the largest SUVs in the segment.

The generous proportions are paired with a design that aims to stand out thanks to an elegant line, enhanced by large wheels, two-tone paint, and very particular technological details. Among these are the front and rear light clusters that can be customized with different lighting patterns, allowing the owner to give the vehicle a unique touch.

But that's not all. The car also adopts refined solutions at the chassis level, which have been entirely developed in aluminum and paired with air suspension and intelligent all-wheel drive, confirming a setup that focuses as much on comfort as on safety.

AITO 9: the interior

The vibe inside can best be described as "high-tech lounge." The dashboard integrates a large panoramic screen (12.3” + 15.6” + 16”), accompanied by a high-level audio system, designed to offer an immersive audiovisual experience, even for the rear environment.

And this is truly the heart of the onboard experience: the seats are reclinable with extendable leg rests offering first-class comfort. Also available is a large 32-inch projector for watching movies or gaming.

There's also a six-seat variant, with Zero Gravity Seats, that turns the journey into a moment of utter relaxation.

AITO 9: Engine And EV Power

Mechanically, the AITO 9 adopts a powertrain with a range extender. While always driven by electric power, a combustion engine acts as a generator to recharge the 52-kilowatt-hour battery. The AITO 9 can achieve up to 140 miles (225 km) of electric-only power on Europe's WLTP testing cycle. When combined with gasoline power, it can drive up to 770 miles (1,239 km.)

The total power reaches 489 horsepower (365 kW), allowing for a 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, a figure that surpasses many competing combustion SUVs. Also notable is the suite of driving assistants, with over 27 sensors and radars constantly monitoring what's happening around the car.

AITO 9: The Price

The prices of the AITO 9 have not yet been announced.

Following the brand's global debut and its appearance on the Munich stage, AITO will target the United Arab Emirates, where the company aims to position itself as a competitive alternative to traditional luxury SUVs.

On the safety front, the brand highlights the use of hot-stamped high-strength steel, comparable to that used in submarines, and record results in crash tests. It achieved five stars in the Chinese CNCAP tests (2021) and a maximum "G" rating in the C-IASI (2023).
