Porsche, Genesis, Ford Top JD Power Quality StudyPorscheAs if enthusiasts needed another reason to desire a Porsche 911. According to the JD Power 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), the iconic Neunelfer has the highest initial quality of any car on sale in America today. Plus, as a brand, Porsche took home the top prize for initial quality in the premium brand segment. Ford, meanwhile, dominated the pickup truck categories in the study, and was named the brand with the highest initial quality in the mass market segment. The 2026 IQS was based on responses from 78,514 purchasers and lessees of new 2026 model-year vehicles who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. Overall new-vehicle quality was then measured by the total number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100); the lower the number, the better the result. The industry average this year was 175 PP100. Porsche scored 138, which put them comfortably in the overall lead and well ahead of second-place premium brand Genesis, which scored 151. Lexus rounded out the top three in the premium-brand segment, with a score of 156.This was a massive step forward for Porsche compared to the 2025 IQS, where the company scored 188, which was just above that year's industry average of 192 PP100. And the 911 did especially well this year, picking up a score of 110. That said, it's worth noting that BMW had six different vehicles (2-Series, 5-Series, 8-Series, X2, X6, and X7) rank highest in their respective premium brand segments.JD PowerPorsche manufacturing plants also were recognized. Porsche AG's Leipzig, Germany plant, which produces the Macan and Panamera and its Stuttgart plant that produces the 911 and the Taycan both won Gold Plant Quality Awards. However, Toyota Motor Corporation's Kyushu 1, Japan plant, which manufactures the Lexus NX and UX, beat them both, earning the Platinum Plant Quality Award.AdvertisementAdvertisementOn the mainstream side of things, Ford was the big winner with an overall score of 152. Nissan was next at 156, and Buick came in third, with 162. The highest-ranked Sporty Car was the Mustang, but it was the pickup trucks where Ford really flexed their muscle; the top-ranked Large Light Duty Pickup was the F-150, and the top-ranked Large Heavy Duty Pickup was the Super Duty series.Hovering near the bottom of the quality rankings were Cadillac with 229, Volkswagen at 233, and Infiniti—the lowest-rated brand, at 235 PP100. In the 2025 survey, Audi was at the bottom with a dismal score of 269; Audi is still towards the lower end of the rankings this year, but it improved significantly to 225 PP100.So if you're building the perfect two-car garage in 2026, the JD Power results suggest a Porsche 911 and a Ford F-150 would do nicely. Not only are they both extremely good at what they do, but the surveys suggest they'll give you fewer headaches than the alternatives—at least for the first three months. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
