Mercedes-AMG G Convertible Puts its Top DownMercedes-BenzMercedes-Benz is pulling the top back on the G Wagen Convertible. In an Instagram post from Mercedes today, the partially camouflaged G is seen putting its electrically-operated roof down for the first time, giving us a glimpse of how the top works and what the car looks like with the soft top stowed away. This post also features photos and video of the car from the front, giving us a new angle to dissect. This shot reveals the AMG G63 front end design, which all but confirms the Convertible will be offered with the G63's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 powertrain. The customary side pipes are present, and in the one fish eye angle photo, there's even an "AMG" front license plate placeholder. If all of those weren't enough, the V-8 rumble in the various videos are convincing enough. As for the top itself, we can see it rests in the cargo area at about the same height as the top of the rear spare tire. It folds in a few spots, up and away from what looks like an outer frame integrated into the top of the car. From the looks of it, both rows of passengers will have the sky above the tops of their heads, and we can even see LED ambient lighting that runs the perimeter of the roof opening inside the cabin. The look itself is certainly different from past convertible G-Wagens, as this one shares the four doors common to the modern hardtop G. Previously, there were two latches that required manual operation on the convertible G, but the first video in the post has no one in the driver's seat, so perhaps this new model will be completely automatic. Even if that's true, there's a good chance the car will need to be stopped for the top to move, considering Mercedes isn't seen driving the vehicle with the top in motion here.Mercedes-BenzThis particular car pictured has the least amount of camo covering it yet. It's painted in what looks like China Blue outside of the camouflaged areas and wears some nice, polished AMG wheels. Unfortunately, that's all we're getting out of Mercedes for now. A full reveal is surely coming soon, as the post says, "stay tuned for more."You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
