@ontrackwithbrad/TikTok; Kzenon/Newscom/The Mega AgencyDrivers who are already a little nervous that a trip to the mechanic will equal a big dent in their wallet might have good reason to seek a second opinion before shelling over the cash for a hefty repair bill.A mechanic named Brad posted a TikTok video calling out technicians who allegedly recommend repairs that customers don't actually need or claim work they never performed."If you gotta lie for your hours, you're not a mechanic. You're a thief with a toolbox," Brad said in the video.@ontrackwithbrad/TikTokHe explained that dishonest practices don't just hurt drivers, either. They also make customers suspicious when an honest mechanic actually discovers thousands of dollars worth of repairs that their vehicle legitimately needs.Brad recalled recently giving a customer a $3,000 estimate for work he said that the vehicle genuinely required. However, thanks to the reputation some mechanics have created in the industry, he was hit with skepticism."You are the reason why this industry gets a bad rap," Brad said of dishonest technicians.Ingram Publishing/Newscom/The Mega Agency"Some of y'all aren't 'flat rate killers,' you're just liars with a toolbox," he captioned the video. "If you have to lie about [diagnostics], sell [expletive] a car doesn't need or claim work you never did just to make your hours, you're not good at your job. And then we wonder why customers don't trust mechanics."He concluded by writing, "Good techs make money fixing cars. [Expletive] techs make money fixing invoices."Brad encouraged customers to get a second opinion, especially when they aren't confident that all of the recommended work is necessary.Read More From First for AutosCar Repair Costs Have Risen Nearly Twice as Much as Inflation Over the Last 7 YearsDriver Proposes to Girlfriend Just Seconds After They're Involved in Huge Car PileupToyota's Aygo X Gets a Y2K Makeover With Pink Leather, Zebra Print and SparkleThis story Mechanic Warns Drivers About Common Repair Scam, Dishonest Technicians: 'Thief With a Toolbox' first appeared on First for Autos.
