Local 10A Florida woman who paid nearly $4,000 for transmission repairs is questioning whether the work was ever performed after a mechanic came forward with video evidence suggesting the shop replaced a much less expensive part instead.Jade Hill took her 2008 Ford Edge to AAction Better Built Transmissions in Pembroke Pines after the vehicle suddenly stopped moving. The shop told her she needed transmission work that would cost $3,850, which prompted Hill to take out a loan to cover the repairs, Local 10 reported."I was bawling," she told the outlet. "I cried."Months later, a mechanic who worked on her vehicle contacted her with some shocking news.Local 10The mechanic claimed he had replaced both front axles rather than repairing the transmission and shared a recording documenting the work."Jade, there is nothing wrong with your transmission," the mechanic said in one recording. "The transmission is perfect. Transmission shifts beautifully. Does not have to be touched whatsoever."In another recording, a service advisor appeared to acknowledge selling Hill a transmission repair before learning the axles were the problem."I basically sold them the unit. I sold the unit, but… the axles are bad?" the advisor said.Local 10However, the repair shop disputed the allegations. Its attorney, Alejandro Velez, maintained that the transmission work was performed and accused the former employee of releasing the recording in retaliation after they were fired for misconduct.Hill hired an attorney to pursue compensation, and the parties eventually reached a resolution. However, the terms were not disclosed.Read More From First for AutosMan Trapped for 14 Minutes in Tesla Cybercab After It Starts Driving in CirclesColorado Highway Dubbed 'America's Scariest Road' With 400-Foot Drops, Avalanche Risk and No GuardrailsChevy Silverado Owner Receives $15K Repair Quote From Dealership, $9K From Second MechanicThis story Mechanic Claims Woman Paid Nearly $4K for Transmission Repair That Was Never Done first appeared on First for Autos.
