The automaker treats its customers well for the first few years after any new purchase. It works like every other manufacturer's coverage, with warranties lasting until the allotted time has run out, or until the owner reaches a set number of miles — whichever comes first. Federal and California Emissions Coverage InfinitiEmissions coverage is listed separately, because most of this coverage is mandated by law. Both federal and California laws decide what gets covered and for how long. Federal emissions regulations are more relaxed, leaving some factors up to individual states, but a handful of states have adopted California's measurement methodology and regulation requirements; the California Air Resources Board sets stricter laws for automakers and customers to abide by, so every automaker that wants to sell cars in California or any other state with CARB rules has increased warranty periods to compensate. States that abide by CARB rules include California, Massachusetts, Oregon, New York, Washington, and Vermont, to name a few. Infiniti New Car Warranty Coverage In Detail Jared Rosenholtz/CarBuzz/Valnet Basic Warranty Coverage The basic warranty is equivalent to other brands' limited warranty — it covers any repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship of all parts and components on all new vehicles sold. The coverage lasts for four years or up to 60,000 miles. While that sounds great, it really only covers claims for cosmetic defects that you notice as soon as you buy the car. Infiniti explains that normal wear and tear (including paint chips, scratches, etc.) are not covered unless you can prove that they were there when you bought the car. Powertrain Warranty Coverage Seatbelt Warranty Coverage Despite the brand including restraint systems in its powertrain warranty, it actually has a separate warranty for the seatbelts. This covers any seatbelt-related component supplied by Infiniti that fails to function properly during normal use within ten years of the date the vehicle is delivered. It does not cover damage caused by accidents/collisions, alteration, or cosmetic issues like color fading. Corrosion Warranty Coverage Like most other brands' corrosion warranties, this automaker's coverage only applies to rust on sheet metal — not the frame. Infiniti describes corrosion as being any body sheet metal panel that has corroded from one surface to another. That means rust has to occur on a body panel, and eventually eat all the way through the panel within the first seven years after the vehicle is delivered for the automaker to cover repairs. Miscellaneous Infiniti Warranty Coverages Explained Infiniti Towing Warranty Coverage Infiniti will cover the cost of a tow truck to the nearest Infiniti dealership if a warrantied part breaks on the road. However, it will only cover the cost of a tow truck if parts break during the broken part's warranty period. For example, if the transmission breaks while driving within the first 6 years or 70,000 miles, you can get it towed to a dealer free of charge, but if you have 70,001 miles, Infiniti will not cover the tow. Adjustment Warranty Coverage The automaker will not charge the owner for any adjustments, such as wheel alignment and tire balancing, for the first year or 12,000 miles after delivery. It will also cover windshield wiper blades for the first six months of ownership. Refrigerant Recharge Only Warranty Coverage Unless the air conditioning system breaks for reasons related to any other warrantied part, Infiniti will cover AC recharges for the first year, regardless of mileage. How Does Infiniti's Coverage Compare to the Best? HyundaiInfiniti's warranty coverage isn't bad at all, but it doesn't live up to the standard that Hyundai sets for the rest of the industry. Hyundai knows its reputation for reliability isn't as good as some Japanese automakers — it makes up for that by offering to fix nearly everything for longer periods than Infiniti offers. Infiniti keeps up with the law by matching its emissions warranties to Hyundai, but Hyundai manages to cover more parts for longer than Infiniti. That doesn't mean the Infiniti warranty cover isn't comprehensive however. Infiniti's Emissions Warranties Explained Infiniti Emissions Defects Warranty Coverage Infiniti will cover any repairs or replacement parts and labor associated with emissions equipment that fails to comply with federal regulations. It covers any repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship which would cause your vehicle not to meet these standards for four years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The engine control module (ECM) and other parts related to the catalytic converter are covered for eight years or 80,000 miles. Emissions Performance Warranty Coverage For the first two years or 24,000 miles, Infiniti will cover repairs or replacement parts related to nonconformity in your vehicle which causes it to fail an approved emissions test. Owners must show proof that the vehicle failed a state emissions test to qualify, and only those who live in a state with regular testing qualify. California Emissions Warranty Coverage The California emissions warranty covers cars that are registered in any of the states which adopted CARB standards. For the first four years or 60,000 miles, the brand will cover necessary repairs or adjustments to pass Smog Check inspections. Other emissions-related parts will be covered for seven years or up to 70,000 miles.
