Jacqueline Thomson has been named plant director of General Motors’ Oshawa Assembly plant, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the facility’s history.

Thomson, a company veteran of more than 26 years, takes the helm as the plant builds the Chevrolet Silverado HD and prepares for production of the next-generation GMC Sierra HD and Chevrolet Silverado HD.

“I am super excited to share that I’m stepping into my new role as Oshawa Assembly’s Plant Director,” Thomson, 50, said in a LinkedIn post Nov. 2. “I am very humbled and honoured to be leading this team as we’ve much to look forward to.”

Thomson took over Nov. 1, from Jake Currie, who was appointed to the role in April 2024.

Her career at GM has spanned manufacturing operations, human resources, labour relations, corporate communications and policy.

One of her career milestones was helping lead Oshawa Assembly’s transformation back to truck production, a process that culminated in the fastest vehicle launch in GM Canada’s history in 2021.

Thomson was recognized as one of Automotive News Canada’s 2021 Canadians to Watch. She also is a member of the Canadian Executive Council.

In her new role, Thomson will oversee a facility preparing for another major production transition, while continuing to build on its truck-manufacturing operations.
