Fu Yuwu, the committee's former chairman, reviewed industry shifts over the past two decades. In his keynote, he analyzed current challenges and proposed strategies to strengthen the talent ecosystem. Since then, the country has led global production and sales for years. It also ranks first in new-energy vehicle penetration rates. During this period, the committee established collaborative platforms and conducted joint studies, such as salary benchmarking. It also released reports on talent needs for electrification and intelligent connectivity. These efforts aimed to strengthen the industry's talent foundation.Yet, rapid expansion has created deep-seated contradictions. Fu pointed to intensifying cut-throat competition and severe product homogeneity. He noted that operational efficiency requires improvement. He also highlighted a structural imbalance in talent supply relative to industry shifts. Challenges remain regarding compliance for overseas expansion and product consistency.Fu proposed three recommendations for talent development. First, treat talent as the primary resource. Prioritize collaboration across government, industry, and academia. Second, foster an open and inclusive innovation ecosystem. This removes barriers to talent growth. It is essential for boosting original innovation capabilities and solidifying basic R&D. Third, the committee must transform itself. It must adapt to industry restructuring and the rise of AI to upgrade its research and service systems.The auto industry is navigating a once-in-a-century technological cycle, Fu concluded. Opportunities and risks coexist. To achieve high-quality development, the sector must reinforce its talent base.
