After a handful of joyous cameos at major auto shows in North America, Fiat's pint-sized Topolino city runabout is making its triumphant arrival on US soil. Primed to compete for valuable parking real estate in major American cities, the Topolino is quite unlike any other EV on American roads. Mainly, because none are quite so tiny.Indeed, the all-new Fiat Topolino is minuscule on a scale rarely seen stateside. With dimensions of 99.6 inches long and 56.4 inches wide, you could fit two of them parked end to end in the wheelbase of one Chevy Suburban. Based on the French Citroen Ami, the Topolino's footprint is small enough to fit in the tiniest urban parking spaces. Legally classified as a low-speed vehicle or Neighborhood EV in the States, the Topolino leaves its Moroccan factory with a 5.4 kWh battery paired to an eight-horsepower electric motor powering the front wheels.Photo Courtesy of StellantisWith a range of up to 46 miles, the Topolino is ideal for short city runabout trips that rarely top more than five to ten miles in a day. Using 2.3 kW AC charging to charge up from flat in five hours, a lack of dedicated fast charging is one item Americans are sure to miss. Even so, the Topolino's minimalist digital gauge cluster and integrated smartphone hold, in lieu of a center screen, make it resemble a normal car just enough to excite. All the while, the Topolino is simple enough to stay affordable. In the spirit of its famous ancestor, the new Topolino's exterior styling is classically Italian.AdvertisementAdvertisementA choice to normal doors, hinged at the front on the passenger side and at the back for the driver, or simple ropes clipped to the hinges with the Dolcevita trim, make for an impactful styling change. Add space for luggage as well as a glove box, an integrated bag hook, and windshield defrosters like a normal car, the Topolino is surprisingly practical for how diminutive it is. The funky 14-inch alloy wheels and panoramic sunroof on the standard Topolino, plus a tasteful Verde Vita paint color, Stellantis really isn't holding back in bringing a Euro-spec city car to the United States."Topolino represents a new chapter for the brand in the U.S. — defined not just by size, but by purpose," said Olivier Francois, FIAT brand CEO. "With Topolino, we bring a feeling, a lifestyle, a reminder that mobility can be joyful, expressive and beautifully simple." Limited quantities of Topolinos will be available for the 2026 model year, with more on the way the following year. This story was originally published by Men's Journal on Jul 8, 2026, where it first appeared in the Gear section.
