CHP Jumps to Aid of One-Off J9 Supercar During MCWCalifornia Highway PatrolMonterey Car Week is famous for its concentration of, well, just about every kind of high-end car in the world. Such a critical mass often leads to peer pressure and bad behavior, forcing the California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies to be on high alert for speeders and reckless drivers. (You can read our own John Pearley Huffman's latest column about it if you want to know more.) But not every story law enforcement interaction with the visiting cadre of supercar drivers last weekend was negative. On August 12, the Monterey branch of the California Highway Patrol posted two Facebook photos showing an officer jump-starting a particularly interesting-looking hypercar. Closer inspection of the pictures revealed that the car in question was designer Jason Castriota's J9 revealed earlier this year, which resembles a Porsche 917 and uses a Carrera GT platform. The second photo in the collection shows a battery lead extending from the one-off machine to the California Highway Patrol's Chevrolet Tahoe. Inexplicably, a man in a banana suit can be seen looking on in the background.California Highway Patrol"Although enforcement is an important part of Car Week, our job goes beyond traffic stops and citations. Our officers are also out on the roads assisting disabled motorists and helping keep everyone moving safely," the California Highway Patrol Facebook post reads. "If you see us out there, remember—we're here to help. Drive safe and enjoy Car Week!"AdvertisementAdvertisementIt's not immediately clear what went wrong with the J9, but we suspect it wasn't too serious, given that a simple jump-start appears to have been the remedy. Details about Castriota's J9, which was built in collaboration with Miller Motorcars of Connecticut, are sparse, but we do know the special model features an extensive list of Carrera GT parts. Even the distinctive balsa wood shifter is present inside.Road & Track has reached out to Jason Castriota to learn more about the rescue from the California Highway Patrol; we will update the story as we learn more. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
