Another Mercedes-Benz model is getting ready to shoot for the stars. The stars in the headlights, that is. The CarBuzz spies have captured the AMG version of the forthcoming CLE convertible. This is the first time we've seen the facelifted soft-top CLE in AMG form, and the changes are shaping up to be not exactly impressive. Convertible Facelift Follows The Coupe Redux CarBuzz/Valnet Earlier this month, the CarBuzzers with the longest lenses snapped the CLE coupe facelift. It showed that Benz was planning changes to the nose and tail, with little in the middle. These newer shots of the convertible echo those changes.Up front, boring headlights are being replaced with slightly more interesting ones. Like nearly every Benz product since the CLA concept in 2023, the car will add star-shaped accent lights that also function as turn signals. It's meant to look like the star in the grille, only brighter. Higher-level models, like the E-Class, get two stars per lamp instead of one like this car.CarBuzz/Valnet There are some changes to the front bumper as well. The spacing of the slats in the Panamericana grille has widened, so now there are 12 instead of 14. The lower bumper grilles at the corners have been expanded and add more visible slats of their own. Still, it's all very mild even by facelift standards. The changes at the rear are even smaller. The camouflage wrap that automakers use to hide the contours of the car combines with the new rear light bar to make this look like some sort of storm trooper. The lights themselves, though, appear to be identical to the ones you'll find at your local dealer today.Benz hasn't added the star lamps at the back yet. It could come later, or the German automaker could be waiting for a full new model. The new design might not fit without changes to the fender, a move that's far too significant for a mid-cycle update because of the need to change the largest panel on the car. Will Convertible Get Mythos Treatment? CarBuzz/Valnet Mercedes-Benz and AMG aren't talking about this vehicle yet, but we have seen at least one teaser of the coupe. That model will get an ultra-hot version wearing the Mythos badge. Benz showed it with a very tall rear wing and confirmed the badge. This will be the second car in the Mythos range, after the AMG PureSpeed that was limited to just 250 units. This CLE Mythos might not be as wild as the PureSpeed, but it will likely be sold in similarly small figures. There will probably be a V8 under the hood. The company's attempt to put a four-cylinder engine in the C-Class AMG model has been panned by customers. We also know that Mercedes-Benz is working on a new version of its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, with that engine making its debut in the latest S-Class.Currently, the quickest CLE on sale is the CLE 53 with a 443-horsepower inline-six. A V8-powered CLE 63 with closer to 600 horsepower would turn the stylish Benz into a rocket. Even if the CLE 63 doesn't come to be, the Mythos would feel like a waste if it didn't get that V8 engine.Expect the usual upgrades to the inside. New screens, a new MBUX operating system, and, most likely, more AI integration. As for when it will arrive, our spies tell us the new CLE in both coupe and convertible trim will debut later this year. They'll likely hit dealers before the end of 2026.Mercedes-AMG CLE Cabriolet spy photo (3)
