The Renault Duster has entered its second generation, following on from its predecessor that was introduced for the Indian market in 2012. Built on an adapted version of the group’s CMF-B platform, the second-generation Renault Duster measures 4,343 mm long, 1,813 mm wide and 1,659 mm tall with a 2,657 mm wheelbase, with approach and departure angles of 25.7 degrees and 29.2 degrees, respectively; ground clearance when unladen is 212 mm. Three powertrain specifications are offered with the Renault Duster from launch – the sole electrified offering here is the E-Tech 160 hybrid featuring a 1,789 cc Atkinson-cycle direct-injection petrol engine producing 160 hp at 5,750 rpm and 172 Nm paired with a “multimode” automatic transmission. This is joined by the Turbo TCe 100 999 cc three-cylinder turbo petrol with 100 hp at 5,000 rpm and 160 Nm from 2,800-3,600 rpm, paired with a six-speed manual; and the Turbo TCe 160, a 1,333 cc turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder petrol producing 160 hp at 5,250 rpm and 280 Nm at 2,000 rpm, paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Inside, the Duster gets a driver’s instrument cluster ranging from seven to 10.25 inches depending on variant, and this is joined by a 10.1-inch central infotainment display. This houses the OpenR multimedia platform with Google built-in, bringing Google Maps, Google Assistant (to be succeeded by Gemini AI in a future update), and the Google Play store. Further cabin conveniences include an inductive charging pad, two USB-C ports, and a cooled, four-litre storage compartment. Also included are a panoramic sunroof, power adjustable ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control with a PM2.5 particulate filter, and a powered tailgate to access the 518 litre luggage compartment. For advanced driving assistance features, the Duster gets 17 ADAS functions, says Renault. This includes ACC with stop and go, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and Flank Protection (which warns the driver of obstacles either side of the vehicle). Also on are AEB that detects vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness and attention monitoring, automatic high beam and weather recognition. The ADAS systems can be customised from the infotainment screen through the My Safety Switch button; these functions are re-activated automatically upon vehicle start-up. Designed in India and to be assembled at the Renault plant in Chennai, the Renault Duster is set to go on sale in India in the spring of 2026, and will later be launched in South Africa and the Gulf states.
