They won't tell you which generation, but for as long as it bears those letters, it's the Porsche they want. Of course, you'll occasionally get a classic model for an answer, but for the most part, it'll be a 911 of some sort. But spare a thought for the Cayman. Sure, the 911 will always be held in high regard, but the Cayman deserves just as much respect, no matter what the snobs or people who just copy other opinions say. The ultimate expression of the second-gen Cayman has to be the GT4, and in many ways, it's the junior GT3 that (somewhat) flies under the radar. Depending on how you see it, that makes it pretty cool.TAC_TheApexCollection/Bring a TrailerThe BackstoryPorsche didn't build a lot of Cayman GT4s, and that alone helps it keep its values strong. Classic.com currently lists its market values at a hair under $99,000. Per the usual, clean, low-mile examples command (and deserve) a premium, such as the one we saw on Bring a Trailer.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe one we spotted is just a few miles short of 3,500 miles, and finished in black, which is apparently a rare color for GT4s. Not only that, the first owner ticked the option box for blacking out just about everything on the outside. This particular example was purchased in California, although it's hard to tell how many times it's exchanged hands. That said, the current owner has added 900 miles prior to this sale.We wish we knew the service history of the car, although it does come with interesting options. It includes the Sport Chrono Package, the Light Design Package, bi-xenon headlights, and a larger 16.9-gallon fuel tank. Also, whoever bought this new really took their time with the configurator, with interesting interior and exterior selections.TAC_TheApexCollection/Bring a TrailerThe OfferSpecificationDetailMakePorscheModelCayman GT4 (981)Year2016Mileage3,492 miles shownEngine3.8-liter MA1.24 flat-sixPower385 horsepowerTransmission6-speed manualDrive typeRear-wheel driveExterior colorBlackInterior colorBlack Alcantara and leather combination with yellow highlightsWheels20-inch GT4 10-spoke alloy wheelsSuspensionFour-wheel MacPherson strutsBrakesFour-wheel ceramic brakesSteeringElectric rack and pinion steeringCurrent bid$98,100Interested in this car? View the listing here. Why It's SpecialOnly about 2,500 981 Cayman GT4 models were ever built, many of which had an interesting mix and match of options and color combinations. It ironically makes it even rarer than the hugely desirable 991.1 GT3 and GT3 RS. The GT4 has goodies from the GT3, too, namely its braking system and suspension components. Truth be told, the only thing missing here is the actual engine from a GT3.AdvertisementAdvertisementInevitably, you'll hear people say that this is the 'poor man's 911,' but it's far from that. Chances are, the people who say that have either never taken a 911 close to its limits, or probably never driven one at all. The GT4 kicks things up a couple of notches, and it's the ultimate expression of the 981 generation.TAC_TheApexCollection/Bring a TrailerTAC_TheApexCollection/Bring a TrailerView the 8 images of this gallery on the original articleThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Aug 21, 2026, where it first appeared in the Car Buying section.
