Car detailing is a much more complicated process than a simple wash, wipe, and vacuum at your local car wash. It’s a thorough deep cleaning that is designed to restore your car to brand-new condition or as close to that as possible. That’s why it comes at a premium. One man recently started a $350 detailing on a truck. But when he got to the backseat, he realized that the price was nowhere near enough. So he more than doubled the price to $800. In the TikTok, Angel (@angels_wash) reveals exactly what made his initial quote insufficient. Once Angel discovered what was on the floorboard of the backseat, he called the client. “I just started on your truck and I was taking out all the mats and I noticed under the backseat mat you had like a bunch of little flowers, shaving, little splinters, and dirt back here,” Angel begins. The floor is littered with dirt, flowers, shavings, and splinters, which Angel believes is embedded in the carpet. “In order for me to get this completely back to normal, I’m going to have to charge you a little more. If that’s okay for you,” Angel says. Tell us what you think! View Comments The truck’s owner asks how much. “I know I originally quoted you $350 for the interior and exterior, but the total is gonna be around $800 inside and out,” Angel responds. He continues, “It’ll come back to brand new. It’s just because the splinters are really embedded into there so I’m gonna have to take a long time to get them all out.” In addition to the embedded splinters, he says the truck smells like mold and the backseat is going to have to be removed to clean it properly. Some people in this position would’ve declined to pay the higher fee. But the truck owner seemed unbothered and immediately agreed to pay the $800. “You can get that out, don’t worry about the money,” he says. Then Angel gets to work. “Let’s get after it, this is going to be awful,” he says. After a few swipes across the carpet with his vacuum, the mess appears to be mostly removed, though not without damaging his equipment. “RIP my vacuum,” Angel writes in an on-screen caption. Car interiors can be challenging to clean out yourself and can get quite dirty where a detailer is needed. Detailers have the ability to turn a dirty car into looking brand new again. When getting your car detailed, Synchrony reports the following can be expected to be done: Interior vacuum Power wash floor mats, scrub upholstery and carpets, and steam clean door handles Treat and polish leather interiors Shine tire and rims Headlights polished Glass surfaces cleaned Waxed after exterior wash Clay bar washing According to Synchrony, a basic detailing costs between $125 and $200. An intensive job or complete restoration, on the other hand, can cost upwards of $1,000 or more. This exact amount varies depending on the condition, location, or added services. In addition to cleaning the interior and exterior of the vehicle, many detailers also offer engine cleaning, paint correction, and paint sealant. What Do People Think Of The Nightmare Detailing Job? Many people who commented on Angel’s post focused on the price increase. “A little bit more, jumps from $350 to $800,” one commented. “$350 to $800 is [expletive] wild lol,” another added. A person who says they have experience in the industry agreed that $800 was excessive. “As someone who did detailing and worked on worse cars than this unless you're doing a whole buff wax and clay bar that should not be anywhere that high 500 max and that’s still greedy only takes a few hours to knock it out,” they wrote “$100 more would have been fair…” one believed. “How tf you get those calculations,” one asked. “I’m pretty bad with my math but it worked,” Angel replied. Other commenters weren’t entirely sure the job was real. Many pointed out that the vacuum started picking up the mess right away with no apparent issue. “As soon as you ran the vacuum, the flowers come up, not embedded at all,” one wrote. “Had to cut the clip,” Angel replied. “Came out the carpet like butter once you touched it with the vacuum,” another said. “It’s skits bro, he’s just rage baiting don’t fall for it you clumsy,” one speculated. “Nah this a skit that’s so [expletive] up,” a second agreed. Angel's bio states that "some videos are just jokes. Relax." It's not clear if this post is in jest. Motor1 has contacted Angel via Instagram and TikTok direct message.
