A woman spends hours at the dealership, only to discover that Carvana is a much quicker option for the car-buying and selling process. In a TikTok video, Hailey Stiehl (@hestiehl) reveals that she waited over 3 hours at the dealership to sell her vehicle and wishes she had used Carvana instead. In the text overlay, she writes, "Why is going to the dealership the most infuriating thing in the world and why does it take 3+ hours minimum for them to give you an answer on one thing?" Her first TikTok went viral with over 151,000 views as of this writing. "I think my personal hell is a car dealership," she captions the post. In the stitch follow-up TikTok, Stiehl shares how the three-hour wait was simply to sell her vehicle. It wasn’t for any buying negotiations or trying to get approved for financing. "I think it took them over an hour to cut us a check, which was annoying but whatever. Moving on past it," Stiehl says. As Stiehl moves on from the dealership, she offers insight into her next car-buying plan. "For buying a car, I’d highly recommend going through Carvana. … I personally thought it was the greatest thing. I literally bought my car in under five minutes. It was super easy," she shares. After buying the car online, Stiehl reveals that it took about 25 minutes to pick up her new car from Carvana in person. This included the whole process from signing the paperwork to getting the car. "The world's easiest experience. Could not recommend it more," she concludes. "Carvana is ~chefs kiss~" she captioned the post. How Long Does It Take To Buy A Car On Carvana? Stiehl suggested using Carvana to avoid the dealership's waiting rooms. She shared how the process took less than an hour. Other viewers shared experiences similar to Stiehl's when using Carvana. "Bought a brand new car from carvana in less than an hour! I'll never go to a dealership again," one TikTok commenter shared. "Carvana is the way to go. I've had two cars delivered by them. I just looked through their inventory on their site, picked the one I liked (instant approval) and they delivered for free in two days," another added. The simple buying process and convenience of Carvana are why buyers are ditching dealerships. Additionally, Carvana offers a seven-day return policy and a 100-day warranty policy for customers. With this, customers can make returns to get the vehicle they will love. While the stories above highlight great experiences, that’s not the case for all Carvana customers. Carvana has been questionable in terms of reliability, and customers have had some horror stories about buying. One woman bought a car from Carvana, only to be hit with a $7,000 repair bill shortly after. On the Better Business Bureau website, Carvana has 1.1 stars out of 5 with over 2,000 reviews. Several customers mentioned that dealing with Carvana is just an overall nightmare. Issues included delivery delays, return and refund issues, mechanical issues, and impolite customer service. How Long Does It Take To Buy A Car At A Dealership? Now, buying a car at a dealership can be a whole experience. Dealing with dealerships can be frustrating or irritating, especially when the paperwork gets changed during negotiations. To avoid dealing with the antics or tactics dealerships try to pull off, one car buyer hired a professional to handle the negotiations for him. Buying a car can be quite the ordeal. Car buyers should expect to spend around three hours at the dealership before driving off the car lot, Experian shares. Now, this number is just considering the time spent at the dealership. The steps involved here include selecting the car, test-driving it, negotiating the final price, securing financing, and signing on the dotted line. Each one of these steps can be held up or sped up depending on the preparation and preferences of the car buyer. For example, getting a pre-approved loan can speed up the financing process, as there is no need for dealership approval. "Don’t go to the dealership without a loan from a bank prior," one TikTok commenter suggested. Alternatively, if the car buyer is selective about the car color and won't budge, the search may take longer if the dealership doesn’t have that color in its inventory. For the entire process, which includes researching, test-driving, and shopping, the average car buyer will spend about 13 to 15 hours. Commenters Agreed That Dealerships Stay Playing Games TikTok viewers speculated about why dealerships make customers wait long periods during the car-buying process. "They make you wait on purpose. You get exhausted and then you’ll make mistakes. When they’re ‘talking to the manager’ they’re actually hanging out in the break room or with other employees," one TikTok commenter said. "It’s quite literally designed so you give up," another commented. "It was quicker when I bought a house on closing day," a third shared. "Walk out. You are not a captive, and there are cars at other dealerships," one suggested. Motor1 has contacted Stiehl via Instagram and TikTok direct message. We will update this story if she responds.
