Image Credit: Main-Poncho-64/RedditA Reddit user has posted in the r/dashcams subreddit asking for people's opinions on a collision captured on dashcam, stating they were involved and the opposing insurance company blamed them 100 percent. The footage was posted by user Main-Ponch-64 and has 4,800 upvotes at the time of writing. The Reddit user had actually posted the video earlier, but claimed that he was reposting it because he was quite perplexed. According to the original poster, the opposing insurance company had claimed that he was 100 percent at fault for the collision that took place. This claim completely stumped the user, so they wanted other drivers on Reddit to help them understand what was going on. The user also wanted to state that it is important to get a dashcam, as submitting his footage to the other insurance company changed what could have been a nightmare outcome. It turns out that the dashcam footage was enough to convince the otherdriver'ss insurance company that it was, in fact, them at fault, and not the poster of the thread on Reddit. Thus, they avoided having to pay out to the other driver, and it confirmed that having a dashcam can be incredibly useful. This Is What the Dashcam Footage ShowedThe footage begins with a couple of cars approaching an intersection, potentially at a slip road to join a highway. In the footage, the dashcam car and another pause to allow other cars to take the exit before we begin to proceed. The car in front heads off with no trouble at all. Suddenly, there is a thud from the left-hand side as the dashcam car begins to turn left.We can just see the front of another car, with a visible dent, stopped alongside the dashcam vehicle. At this point, it isn't 100 percent clear what has happened. Luckily, this driver had a rear camera, and that managed to capture exactly what happened. Our car comes to a near stop as it lets the car in front make its manoeuvre, but as we move off, the car behind, what seems to be a Maserati, suddenly pulls alongside as if it is overtaking. It appears to cross into the lane of oncoming traffic to do so, seemingly unaware of this fact and in total disregard for the car in front of it. A photo towards the end of the video shows the two cars side-by-side, and having watched the video, it's quite baffling as to how the insurance company even attempted to blame the driver of the dashcam car. It is that claim from the other insurance company that led to this user reposting the footage. The Insurance Company Did Change Its MindThankfully, the insurance company did change its mind after they had the dashcam footage. "On the same day I made that post, my insurance sent the dashcam footage to the other insurance company," said the Reddit user. "I'm happy to share that today I was notified that the opposing driver's insurance has claimed full liability!" they added. According to the dashcam driver, the reason he was initially blamed was that the other driver had given a different story to insurance companies. They'd claimed that he had turned into him, and that some of the damage on the dashcam car, a Toyota, was already there. Thankfully, the dashcam cleared that up. "Where did the other driver even come from 😭😭 , trying to cut in front of you from your left, in a lane for opposite traffic? Absolute idiots on the road," said one Reddit user. "Apparently he was in a rush to drop off his daughter/granddaughter and decided it was a good idea to cross onto the other side of oncoming traffic lol," said the dashcam footage owner. Well, that is one excuse to try and get out of a bad situation. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
