Toyota Delays Production of 2027 Highlander EVToyotaProduction of the 2027 Toyota Highlander has been delayed by a minimum of eight weeks, a Toyota representative confirmed. The delay will let Toyota make "final adjustments prior to launch," and now sales may not start until early 2027.It's unclear how this production delay will affect the Highlander's sibling vehicles, the Lexus TZ and Subaru Getaway. After years of hesitancy regarding EVs, Toyota bolstered its electric lineup for 2026 by adding the smaller C-HR and larger bZ Woodland alongside a heavily refreshed version of the bZ. Then Toyota took its commitment to EVs one step further by revealing the 2027 Highlander, putting the long-running gas-powered SUV nameplate onto a new three-row EV. But now it appears we may need to wait a bit longer than expected to see the 2027 Highlander, with Toyota delaying production, as originally reported by Cars.com.ToyotaThe 2027 Highlander was originally supposed to go on sale by the end of 2026, but now Toyota is pushing back the start of production. A Toyota representative confirmed that production would be delayed by "a minimum of eight weeks," and said that the delay would "allow timing for final adjustments prior to launch."AdvertisementAdvertisementWe're not sure exactly how this delay to the start of production will affect when the 2027 Highlander goes on sale, but we wouldn't be shocked if the three-row EV doesn't end up reaching dealership lots until early 2027. The current 2026 Highlander, which offers gas-only or hybrid powertrains, will continue production through December 2026, the Toyota representative confirmed, and we expect copies of the 2026 models to be available in dealer inventory for much of 2027.The first all-electric Highlander will also spawn two other new EVs. The Lexus TZ will serve as a more luxurious counterpart and was also originally planned to start sales by the end of 2026. The Toyota spokesperson said they currently did not have any information to share on the TZ. Subaru is also utilizing the Highlander's platform for its own three-row electric SUV, the Getaway, which is also due out in late 2026. We've reached out to Subaru to ask about how the Highlander's production shift will affect the Getaway; we'll update this story when we hear back.➡️ Skip the lot.
