This new camper looks like the RV equivalent to a well-equipped smart-home.In case you missed it, one of the camper and recreational vehicle space's annual exhibitions, the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, took place recently. Naturally, all the world's greatest outfitters and coachbuilders attended to show off their latest creations.German-based Dethleffs is one. Amid all the buzz, the camper and trailer builder revealed its latest concept, which may just set a new standard for eco-friendly glamping. One seriously tech-forward camperDethleffs' newest camper is called the C.Core and it builds upon the company's latest RV platform. But unlike many other campers out there, Dethleffs potentially sets a new bar on tech-forward and advanced systems.AdvertisementAdvertisementIt's all found in the latest additions to the C.Core, which bring some of the most advanced gadgets to support basic functions.View this post on InstagramOn the outside, the C.Core looks like your typical, contemporary-styled European camper. It utilizes Volkswagen's latest Crafter van as its backbone. From there, it gets all fancy and state-of-the-art.The exterior shell is made of lightweight aluminum to help keep weight down, improving fuel efficiency and handling.Stepping inside the C.Core looks like the equivalent to stepping into a smartly designed, modern and hip tiny home. Every panel and seating arrangement appears neatly upholstered in eco-conscious materials, themed in a rather welcoming and contemporary color palette. The stand-up shower's design looks clean and fancy enough to be found in a multi-million-dollar coastal Mediterranean flat. But the C.Core's fancy appointments are only part of its appeal. All the fancy fixin's for advanced living Dethleffs C.Core Concept in Detail 8 photos Dethleffs - Credit: DethleffsAdvertisementAdvertisementDethleffs - Credit: DethleffsDethleffs - Credit: DethleffsDethleffs - Credit: DethleffsDethleffs - Credit: DethleffsAdvertisementAdvertisementDethleffs - Credit: DethleffsDethleffs - Credit: DethleffsDethleffs - Credit: Dethleffs Expand gallery 10 1 / 8 Previous slide Next slide Return to story AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDethleffsAdvertisementAdvertisementDethleffsDethleffsDethleffsDethleffsAdvertisementAdvertisementDethleffsDethleffsDethleffs 10 1 / 8 Previous slide Next slide Much of the C.Core's party pieces lie in its technology. For instance, it comes standard with 600-watt photovoltaic rooftop solar cells to support its onboard electronics. Those cells also help keep the van's 400-ampere/hour lithium-based battery system all charged up.Helping to keep the hot, potable water flowing is a uniquely designed closed-loop water system. Yes, the C.Core recycles some of its used water waste through a multi-stage filtration system before it all flows back to the main supply tank.AdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to Dethleffs, the system is thorough enough to clean the water to a higher level than basic tap water. More importantly, it's apparently self-sufficient and maintenance-free, so there's no need to change out the filters once they're used up.Other sustainable features include an onboard auxiliary heating system that supposedly runs on waste hydrotreated vegetable oil. (Basically, the filtered remnants of what's used to cook your meals.)Currently, the C.Core is only a concept. But Dethleffs says it hopes to roll out some of the camper's bespoke features in future builds.About the Author: Chris Chin is an associate editor at Gear Patrol, covering cars, trucks and anything else with four wheels.
